** Star Wars Episode VII - SPOILERS WITHIN **

easyrider, I think you have made your point. You seem almost irritated that people enjoy this movie.

I freaking loved it and is my favorite movie this year. I cannot wait to see it a 2nd and 3rd time. Next showing will be 3D Imax I'm thinking, went with 2D first of all to make sure I was taking it all in.

All I can think of as a response to that is.... so?

Are you somehow surprised that long standing actors get paid more than newcomers?

No...I don't think he was worth it.

Way ahead of you, I read that weeks ago, and if you are going to link something, tell the full story. Please stop being selective to suit your agenda.

The first day of shooting.

Erm..I actually disagree with JJ I thought she was Good...Although she should have made moe of an effort not to sound so K Knightly/ Nightly imo.

I'm taking my students to the IMAX in the new year....Last film I saw at the IMAX was intersteller.

Awful long dawn out nonsense but not wasted journey as the sound design was amazing.

:)

Then why the link?

JJ said her acting on the first day was wooden, it says nothing about her acting in the movie is wooden. I can't for one second fathom he will go on record during the promotion of the movie round the world tell the press he thinks she can't act.

I said her acting is good in the movie, I didn't see her acting on the first day, nobody here did. That is irrelevant.

edit - of course Disney bought LucasFilm for ~£4bn so put that into the numbers and it still has a way to go hahaha

I would love to know the figures. There was a merchadising industry expert on BBC News a week or so ago saying that Disney have already made a lot of the money back through merchandising and that most Disney films these days make more through merchandising than ticket sales. Apparently they will often stick a character in just for the merchandise potential. Doesn't hugely surprise me tbh...especially if you ever go into a Disney store :p

On a similar note, it is great to have so much Star Wars merchandise in one place now. I can no longer complain about getting dragged into a Disney store :D

Why not? I find it interesting that he didn't find this out at the test screening :p

Ticket sales are meant to be around 2.8 Billion

I actually thought Daisy was one of the stand out characters in the film. She did everything right IMO. The only actor that outshone her was whoever was in control of BB-8!

BB-8 was real!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please tell me he was!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Loved him....A right trouble dark manipulative droid with a clear agenda and mission. Star of TFA imo.

Because clearly I was on about the acting in the movie, not the acting on the first day of shooting.

She was bad on the first day perhaps because it was the first day and the pressure?

The screening and casting clearly did a good job because she came through.

Anyway, we all agreed she is good in this and let's leave it at that.

Indeed, i guess Disney's years of giving life to inanimate objects has paid off there, not that R2 wasn't always well anthropomorphize for a dustbin can :D

Shame they couldn't work the same magic with Carrie Fisher ;)

He was, they showed him on stage right after the first trailer was shown at Star Wars Celebration.

they worked with Sphero to get him going apparently, I'd imagine things like the blowtorch were cgi though

I would have gladly had a CGI version of Carrie Fisher...At least we would have gotten some expression and emotion...

Anything coming from CF was struggling to penetrate her "Botoxed" up face!

In fact a small cameo role of Solo would have been enough...A nod to the past and then move on...C3PO was not needed..CF was not needed and R2 was in it
just enough...

Cheers for the video :)

Daisy Ridley is really amazing in this, she express all the right emotions at all the right moments that makes the scenes believable, from first time seeing a planet full of green to finding out the Force is real, to thinking Fin has died

The scene where she is running towards Fin seemed a bit hammed up and out of place. Maybe with a bit more context it could have worked but I didn't think her behaviour was congruent to her previous scenes with Fin. A lack of passage of time perhaps, but it felt overacted.

How did someone so far up their own butt in declaring themselves the only person on OcUK that knows anything about movies not know that BB-8 was a real prop, due to JJs drive to use real objects rather than green screen where possible due to the more natural acting it produces?

Seems like the kind of thing an 'expert' would have known, no?

How he works is quite simple but clever, basically like a hamster inside a ball principle, with a magnetic head section to the body with a gyro.

The movement of the body is pretty simple as you say. Nothing new if you look at stuff like the Sphero. The impressive bit is the control they have over the head (although a lot of the close up head shots were done in such a way that it was probably a static model of just the head). That on stage video shows that the head has got a fair amount of independent control over the body. I doubt its a one man job to 'drive' it.

I meant BB-8 being a real in the sense of being real...a sentient being not a remote controlled prop.

Its clear from the films he's not CGI all the time.:p

Even the toy you can control the head movement some what as well, so it's quite possible they can do it all as it is a much larger model.
