** Star Wars Episode VII - SPOILERS WITHIN **

Thank you.

I have (for the first time ever) looked up the definition of plot hole. It is not only things which are impossible. It covers a much wider spectrum of occurrences.

So why don't those gunners shoot that escape pod, or tractor beam it in ANH?

Star Wars always was loveable Saturday matinee garbage full of silly parts obviously I'm not elevating TFA above ANH/ESB as a movie, but the haters are getting silly when they say the prequels are better films IMHO.

It's a shame, but a lot of the story hinges on the First Order (and the Republic, thinking of it) being spectacularly inept/ stupid/ unaware of their own history/ short-sighted.

It makes me sad :(

The writers really do get away scott free with just about anything, on the grounds that the FO just aren't competent enough to do better. Their soldiers are all disloyal, their tactics are crazy, their defences useless...

I'm barking up the wrong tree here, aren't I?

It was exactly the same in the original trilogy. The Stormtroopers couldn't hit a barn door from 5 feet away. They built their space station with a massive glaring weakness. They were obliterated by a bunch of stone-aged teddy bears on Endor.

The arrogance and ultimate incompetence of the bad guys is pretty much a recurring theme throughout ALL of the movies.

On the flip side, I've heard people say TFA is now the best SW film, better than the originals.

I'm not the prequels biggest fan (huge understatement), but against this this new film lifts far too many elements from the originals, and does a worse job with the plot and the characters. The prequels had a lot of original elements, TFA has none.

The people saying TFA is the best SW film are smoking some serious ****.

I've literally never heard anybody say that. I put it above Jedi but it isn't anywhere near Empire and ANH.

Anybody who says it is worse than any of the prequels should not be trusted with anything sharp.

EDIT: Apart from Episode 3 obviously where the bad guys actually won.

I really don't see the First Order as any worse than the Empire. Their soldiers were cannon fodder at best, they built two massive space stations with the same glaring weakness, they let the pod go at he start if ANH, they somehow allow two droids, three people and a wookie, including a Jedi who Vader surely must have sensed, on to their space station right under their noses, their state of the art technology get destroyed by friggin' Ewoks for Christ's sake and they leave two high profile prisoners to be escorted by a couple of stormtroopers and the guy who will obviously try to free them given the chance. Not to mention Vader couldn't finish a barely trained Luke who had little to no prior training against an actual lightsaber.

Who on this thread has said it's the best Star Wars film?

phasma was the weakest part of the film for me - not badass at all and rolled over too easily to disable the shield.
And.....................call me sexist but having a female voice from a storm trooper didn't sound right - maybe it would have been ok if she was cool like bobafett, but giving up the shield codes made her weak (i'm actually surprised there isn't an internet storm of whining about the first female storm trooper being a coward).

There is. The first black ST was a traitor, the first female ST was a coward.

There have been people calling JJ a racist just for this. e: I should make it clear I'm not advocating this viewpoint.

Don't remember which people, but I'm pretty sure it has been said in here more than once.
I'm not about to go and look for their posts though.

Look, some people think the Total Recall or Robocop remakes were better than the original. There are weirdos everywhere.

Thinking Episode 7 is the best Star Wars film so far doesn't mean you think its amazeballs.

I think Episode 7 is the best Star Wars film so far. I also think Chlamydia is the best STD, but that doesn't mean I want it!

There are even people who think Highlander is a cinematic masterpiece.:)

This is probably not the thread you are looking for, move along move along :)

the black thing is a bit strange - he rebelled against a nazi style organisation that was killing innocent people - thats a very positive and commendable thing to do imo.
then again there are people who just don't like the idea of a black storm trooper - all a bit strange in a fantasy universe.
