Very true. I mean, technically once flaying was made legal again Ramsay's abuse of Theon was fine too. I don't get why I found those scenes so disturbing to read and watch. What's wrong with me? :(

It was a disturbing scene and an act perpetrated by a disturbing character.

Is that not subjective? I wasn't disturbed by it. You know it's not real, right? ;)

I just watched the end of S5 of 'The Shield' and I'm more disturbed by that tbh, but that's going off topic.

Is The Shield a real story and hence your point about GoT not being real (I genuinely don't know anything about The Shield)? Even if that's the case despite the logic in your point I find it a little alien that someone could have no empathy for a character, fictional or otherwise. That said, it's not an uncommon trait sadly.

No, that was me saying it can happen. I'm probably more bought into the characters in 'The Shield' as it's more realistic than GoT. I can be disturbed by TV, this GoT rape scene didn't disturb me is all.

So do you think your issue is more that you don't identify with the characters in GoT because it's so fantastical? If it was closer to reality (in your opinion) and a similar thing happened you would find it more disturbing?

Obviously I'm making an assumption here but if your answer to the above is yes I guess we're mostly in agreement? (edit: Just not about whether or not someone should have an attachment to characters in a "more" fictional setting)

It could be. Maybe the argument could be made I was more involved in the GoT 'world' and in that world this act is possibly quite tame compared to other things that happen (molten gold poured over someone's head for example). Hard to say!

I definitely agree that other things that have happened in it are at least as horrific, possibly worse. In one of my earlier posts I mentioned that I thought the outcry over this scene was pretty ridiculous given everything else that has happened in the series.

I really don't get why this conversation is still going on. It's rape, whether or not is it technically legal in this fictional world. It was a disturbing scene and an act perpetrated by a disturbing character. I don't think anyone of sound mind can reasonably argue otherwise. If it wasn't a powerful scene for anyone reading this I suggest seeking help.

Because you and Uncle Petey are like broken records, that's why it's still going on. I think you must both have been taking lessons from easyrider.

That scene with Sansa was harsh, but hardly "disturbing" in any true sense. There are far worse scenes in TV and movies that truly deserve that word to be used.

See my post above. I have never stated that there are not worse scenes in TV and film. In fact, I've stated the opposite, even about GoT itself.

I really don't get how you can (with presumably a straight face) argue that it was a) not rape due to a technicality of law in a fantasy world and b) not disturbing just because other horrific things have been witnessed.

I only responded because Dowie quoted me.
You then quoted me, but I suppose I shouldn't have responded to you for fear of being accused of going on like a broken record, right?

How much more divvy logic can you provide this evening?

Yup, just as I thought. I shall leave you to your faux-outraged-debate on morality within a fantasy setting.

PS: lol.

Other things are more disturbing so that means that this wasn't. Also, because the general setting is fantasy, that somehow makes rape less of an issue than it would be in a show that was set in <insert real world time/location>.

The swear filter can be a tricky one as even if things are starred out your post could have been taken as being aggressive towards another member (or members).

I don't really appreciate the edit notes of "because people are thenthetive" as it was simply a friendly warning rather than taking anything further. I agree with all the points you've raised in this thread but I still would prefer that we keep things as civil as possible.

I'm going to stop watching the show for now as GRRM has missed his deadline for the next book. Dont want to see spoilers in the tv show that might ruin the books as I find them superior to the show. I do love the show though.

The books are superior to the show, it's not even in doubt. That said, God only knows when the book will be out so I'll watch it and read the book on release. If I don't, some **** at work will just spoil it for me anyway. GRRM has already said the show and the book tread different paths with regards the characters, so the show won't be a complete book spoiler.
