Ended up being just over 71 miles so not too shabby. Quite a relaxed pace for me though I did start to feel a bit low on blood sugar towards the end. A stop at the fish and chipshop in Didsbury sorted that out though...

To test 'riding to power' I attempted to go up Artists maintaining 350w. I did a terrible job of it at the start as accelerating obviously requires much higher power. For a bit after I wasn't too terrible but then my legs were crying (they'be been weirdly tired all week despite minimal amounts of cycling) so I dropped off a bit. Averaged out at 339W and was only a 3rd best, bah!

I think the power output is probably similar to my previous PR but I've got several kg of blubber weighing me down right now...

Good ride FT, I was gonna try for 200k this weekend but having a few issues with the car so wanted to get back and have a look at it. Will try get in a metric at least tomorrow with the club, slowly starting to feel my legs coming back to me for sure. Enjoying the longer slower miles although I'm not able to put the hurt on people I'd normally batter at the moment.

I'm tempted to get out for more tomorrow as my legs aren't feeling too bad. I suspect after all the beer tonight I might change my mind...

I still need to get an imperial in before the end of January or fail at one of my 2016 aims at the first hurdle. Someone's birthday next week too so... Going to be tough.

edit: I know what you mean about being unfit. I'm definitely far from my peak. It's kind of annoying that I've only just got the PM (though I've not really done any tough/fast rides anyhow). It would be interesting to compare figures from this time last year.

Love the new loop from home my wife and I have done a couple of times this week.

Stupid creaks.

Metallic creaking that occurs when pedalling, sometimes.

Freewheel and it stops the noise and doesn't come back for a little while.

Either free hub or BB I think.

Really enjoyable night last night at the velodrome in Manchester for Revolution Round 6. Some great performances from Laura Trott, she was a cut above everybody else. Theo Bos and Matthew Rotherham were pretty awesome too, I've never seen bigger legs than Matt Rotherham's!

Sir Chris Hoy was there too leading the youngsters round at the start and handing out the awards, nice to see him.

Appalling photos to follow, particularly of that chaps balding head!

Sir Chris Hoy in amongst the riders (hard to spot him wearing all black.

The imperious Laura Trott, who won every race she entered in the evening session.

Ugh... I didn't think I'd drank *that* much last night but clearly I was wrong.

No cycling happening today. I've only just got up in fact

Maybe I'll see if I feel better in an hour or so and go out for a very slow spin.

Chaps! I stopped riding a few years ago but have got back into it lately, both road cycling and commuting. I need a couple of sets of mudguards but I get a little confused.

I've got a 2015 CAAD8 with mudguard eyelets front and rear - Would something like these :

Be what I'm looking for, in the 35mm profile? I use 25mm tyres and plan on staying with 25mm. If not, any recommendations? I want to ride through as much of winter as I can.

And secondly, for my commute I use a Charge Plug which has got 32c tyres, so am I similarly looking for say a 45mm profile mudgaurd? Strangely enough it's got mudguard eyelets on the frame but not apparently, on the fork! There are two holes at the bottom of the forks on the insides, but I am positive that they are vent/drain holes as opposed to hidden mudguard eyelets as I'm certain they're not threaded. P clips the answer here I guess?

Mudguards for the Plug I'd be looking at literally keeping them on there 24/7/365 as it's just a knockabout commuter. Any recommendations for those as well?

Any help appreciated, I keep getting confused with what I'm looking at :-|

Knocked out a good 71 miles this morning! Wanted 80 but plan was scuppered when I had 90% bonk! Luckily it was just before our cafe stop so rather than carry on stopped in for a sandwich! Felt so much better after a stop.

Weather was a bit mad just thick fog most of the way round. Not really helped when my lights ran out of juice. Roads were disgusting. Unfortunately our club doesn't enforce mudguards so was a right old state when I got back! Nice rest in front of the TV now!

My front brake has started to stick on with a 1 cm of free play on lever. Last time this happen on my rear brake and some kind person on here said it was brake cable covered in crap and to release the tension and oil. Job was a good one.

This time I can't release the tension as it's the front brake. Is it a case of releasing cable from the calliper where the bolt is and pulling it out to lubricate and can I just thread it back through easily ?

The calliper is 105 5800. I would just give it a go but its my commute bike.

Nice one! I managed to fit in 30km before dinner, so that's something. I'm going to see how spritely I feel in the morning and see if I can get up early for a quick 30min ride.

Need to fit the vectors back on the aeroad and cleats to the new cheap Shimano shoes I got in the sale... might take that for a spin in the morning too.

Yep. Release the cable at the caliper, pull it back through the lever, clean it, relube it with 3-in-1 or similar and then feed it back in.

Bluemels will be fine on the caad8. On the plug you have a few choices. You can replace the fork (expensive, difficult, daft), use mudguards that don't need proper mounts (they're all garbage), or use p clips and proper mudguards like bluemels, chromoplastics, etc.

Though I've not tried them Raceblade Longs do sound like they're half-decent.

If it were me I would buy a new inner for the sake of a couple of £. It can be tricky sometimes not to fray the ends, and once you've done that it can be a right pain to get it back through the outer. You'd need to crimp on a new end cap anyway.

edit: either that or be careful not to pull it all the way out of the outer/shifter

Perfect, cheers. Am I right in thinking 35mm guards are appropriate for 25mm tyres?
