It depends on whether or not you plan to get larger tyres to be honest. I have 28mm on my bike (25mm tyres). I could possibly just about fit 28mm tyres on there but it would be very tight. I'm happy with that though.

35mm guards with 25mm tyres wouldn't look as nice imo.

Replaced my BB, new SKF bearings hopefully it solves my noises.

Loctite 641 used on the cups and bearings in the cups. 609 on the crank to bearings.

Set it overnight and fingers crossed!

In good news, looks like my ENVE wheels are being replaced under warranty, either new rims or whole new wheels, not sure yet.

Last time someone said that to me I thought I was going to die... "just a slow one..." BS. :D

Yeah I bet FT hunted down (between everyone) max FTP and then rode at 105% of it with his PM! ;)

Did 30k downstairs fasted myself.

Pretty sure the sugar in lemsip will have ruined your fasted state! Black coffee only! How have you found the tablet handlebar stand? That's the Tacx one yeah?

My garmin seems to be playing up. Neither my hrm or speed/cadence sensor were working properly. I think I'll have to do a factory reset or something and failing that it'll be expensive replacement time...

Good to hear you're back out mate, take it steady! HRM and S&C dropping out I've found is usually solved with new battery.

I've got a 2015 CAAD8 with mudguard eyelets front and rear - Would something like these :

http://www.tredz.co.uk/.SKS-Bluemel...ign=Adwords&gclid=CJWj3K7YwsoCFdZsGwod6FMCQw#

And secondly, for my commute I use a Charge Plug which has got 32c tyres, so am I similarly looking for say a 45mm profile mudgaurd? Strangely enough it's got mudguard eyelets on the frame but not apparently, on the fork! There are two holes at the bottom of the forks on the insides, but I am positive that they are vent/drain holes as opposed to hidden mudguard eyelets as I'm certain they're not threaded. P clips the answer here I guess?

Check bridge clearance on both, then fit Chromos/Blumels if possible. If tight fit Raceblade Longs. Same for both bikes really! P clips where required. I've adapted Raceblade Long (V1 & V2) stays on my Defy and the mrs' Avail to fit to the mountpoints as clearance was so tight. Less than 5mm between caliper and tyre on my Defy. 2-3mm gap now with the guard L bracket in there!

This time I can't release the tension as it's the front brake. Is it a case of releasing cable from the calliper where the bolt is and pulling it out to lubricate and can I just thread it back through easily ?

Just as easy but check the ends of the outer cover - the plastic 'ends' just pull off. If you see the metal of the inner is rusty that probably needs changing. You can get all sorts of rubbish in the plastic ends too, quite easy to replace them/outers/cables! :)

In good news, looks like my ENVE wheels are being replaced under warranty, either new rims or whole new wheels, not sure yet.

Awesome news! Hope your creak is sorted - if not check dropouts for grit and rear hanger too.

I rode in again this morning. Rubbish traffic, but made it in ok. Wrist a bit sore, especially on the bad road surface, but it's getting better.

Didn't even think about that Roady. Balls. Hey ho.

Hopped on the trainer this morning thinking it'd be better than outside, but it's actually a really nice day. Did a quick 10k warm up and then rode to work... but cleats/ shoes pointing toe in, when I'm a toe out and my seat sliding down as I rode made it an uncomfortable commute.

The trouble with getting your Mrs in to using the trainer is many fold; firstly, she wants to use the garmin for a ride this afternoon, so I could just use strava on the way in, so didn't bother fitting the sensors from the vectors. This led her to just say "why don't you just buy me one then?!"
This is going to get expensive...
This leads to problem 2! I pass things, much like the garmin off as cheap... so the more she starts riding the more she realises that I'm talking out my arse. lol :o

Had a bit of a 'meh' weekend here... Had hoped to continue my gradual weekly increase in mileage trend of the last couple but failed miserably... Spent more time removing pedals (more on that shortly...) than riding last week! :o :(

Weather was forecast good all weekend and with the other half working saturday morning I intended to get out with the group ride (34 miles). Change of plans on friday night meant we went out and I lost the evening to sort my bike out before saturday morning... Rear pads rubbing from the filth, rusty chain (road salt & rain) and stretched gear cables (that a quick reindex wouldn't sort). I wasn't facing a fast saturday ride in that state! Even woke up saturday feeling rough like a badgers arse without drinking much friday...

Saturday afternoon I sorted everything out (cleaned & changed chain) then attempted to swap my SPD pedals for the SPD-SL's I got for Christmas. Couldn't get the damn things off! Broke/bent one pedal spanner (an old Halfords one) and an allen key. Thankfully had a second more substantial pedal wrench but my arms/wrists were done in after nearly 3 hours of it. Sacked off any outside riding, did a stint on the turbo and just took the dog for a long walk. Sulked. Went to the cinema (The Revenant), sulked more. I spent a good hour reading different forums online on what to do next.

Sunday armed with treated pedal spindles (I'd sprayed a load of WD40 on the night before) I had a mission to accomplish! Tried everything (apart from heating them) until eventually fitting the bike into turbo trainer allowed me to jump/bounce all my weight on the pedal spanner 'in line' with the crank arm. First one came off with so much force I caught my inner leg on my top tube/saddle, along with some choice language I now have a nasty sore wheal/mark (seems to be where the seam is between pad and shorts in all of my cycling shorts! :() Used the anger to do the same on the second pedal and got that one off without hurting myself further. 2 hours spent but finally done! Fitted cleats to new shoes (Giro Treble II's) and went out for a ride. Needless to say new pedals fitted with plenty of grease and only 'finger' tightened! ;)

With my sore leg (and as things were windy) on sunday I opted out of the segment I'd set a goal on for the end of the month. I'm not gonna get time to complete that now! :( Did my local loop (I used for training previously) that I hadn't ridden for a while. Cleats not perfect, sore leg but still felt good to beast up some of those climbs. Good average speed for me over that distance/climbing. Quite interesting that the two rides for me (Zwift & loop) are similar distance/climbing with almost the same average speed. Hope this means I really have got my Turbo set up well?! :D

Shoe porn (Sidi Kaos):

They're so damn comfortable! Half regretting buying the Giro Treble II's now, but they will be for commuting... The Kaos' fit and feel like a slipper - more comfortable than my fave trainer (Nike Airmax '95), which are really comfortable and supportive (for my bad arches)! :D

In all of my maintenance this weekend I discovered the LBS changed the FSA press-fit BB (looked like this) BB89 that my Giant came with (cups flush with frame so had a wavy washer/spring) for a Shimano BB71 (external cups to frame, no wavy washer). I couldn't get my HTII spindle out of it, even tapping with a hammer. Hopefully I won't need to now, but in the longer term what's the correct procedure? The fit of the covers seems very tight over the spindle, which should mean less grit gets in there.

Did you get that softshell yet, Roady? Any good?

Got the DHB Blok Micro 'Softshell Windslam Roubaix Jacket' and although it's great quality it really is a jacket fit. I'm returning it to exchange for the DHB ASV 'Windslam Roubaix Jersey' which I'm hoping is a slightly tighter fit.

I don't really need jackets (when not raining!) with the other jerseys I tend to wear - Sportful Wind jersey & DHB Windslam Blade and was after something similar. The Micro would be very warm with a jersey under it as it has no vents - too warm for the current temps, but probably ok in anything under 4-5 degrees. It does look awesome though and amazing quality, feels thicker & better than the Macro Roubaix Jersey I have

Haha, welcome to my world. Any time I buy anything I have to factor in that the missus will want it eventually. Probably why I'll never get Di2!

I don't mind though, I'm happy that she's keen and I don't mind sharing the turbo every now and then. It's nice to have a shared interest. I used to do a lot of running and it was always a shame we couldn't do it together.

I'm going to pick up one of those jackets. It's only £39 at the moment, so it's a bargain, even if we are getting out of the season when it's really necessary. It was £65 before Christmas, so it'll save me a bit of cash if I buy it now!

There's someone on ebay near me selling a Stages Power meter for £370, but I reckon I could push him to £300 as I could collect and pay cash. Soooo tempting.

@Roady, re. the tablet mount, it's on... which is a little awkward to start, but I don't have a tablet for it now lol my iPad is just too old so the broken bluetooth just isn't worth sorting. I could buy another iPad, but the ANT+ dongle arrived today, so I'll just take my laptop down tonight and use that.
It's pretty sturdy though, seems decent if you have something for ti. Even when going for it, held it in well and took the weight.

I'm tempted by one of those too...would be handy for the next few months.

Personally rather than a Stages I'd do what OMS suggested and I did - keep an eye on ebay for a cheap secondhand power2max.

I am pretty sure I am going to get this but would appreciate any thoughts.

Guy I work with (and trust) is selling a load of bikes. He has offered me his 2015 Trek 5.2 Domane. He rides it to work at present (about 25 miles each way) but it is stored home and work and I know he really looks after his gear. He reckons he has done about 5000 miles on it.

He wants £750 for it.

I ride a Trek at present which is a 58cm frame, this is a 56cm. I am just under 6ft (say 182cm) and have a 33in inside leg. If anything my arms are on the short side.

Any reason I shouldn't get the bike?
