Almost 5pm and it's still quite light outside! :D

Once things are lighter to around 6ish I have plans on extending my work commute a couple of times a week... Before the 'Bike Club' starts again after work with some mates! Wanna be able to put the hurt on them this year! ;)

That's pretty good that you can comfortably go out after work / around rush hour. Pretty undesirable here due to the amount of traffic so I rarely bother even in summer. Night ride tonight after the traffic has cleared hopefully!

Sa Calobra twice!? Jesus. Very similar to a route we did last year. Bar the double ascent of Sa Calobra.

Yeah guy in the comments of the ride did a similar route with only 1 Sa Calobra. I'm guessing Kwait is getting ready for some Momument wins! Can't wait! :D

And I really wanna ride Lanzarote one day!

Yeah, thankfully I work on the outskirts of town so providing I go away from any of the river crossings commuting traffic is usually going the other way!

Traffic is bad in Hereford from 3pm-5:30pm. Generally after 5:30 it eases and usually by 6pm has cleared. My 4.5 mile work commute (by car) would regularly take 45min if I left at 5, yet 15 minutes if I left after 5:30. Kinda leads me to leaving work later than I should!

Frenchie, do they have the Mushroom Bruschetta back on the menu at Jodrell Bank..?

I didn't go inside this time - just waited to have cake delivered to me. I'll look out for it next time though :)

We still need to meet up for a ride sometime on that note. Maybe in a month or two when it's a little lighter.

Bear in mind "most" people put out different power on the road vs the turbo. A large proportion of riders find they put out less power on the turbo vs the road. A few put out the same. Fewer still put out more on the turbo than the road.

Most people reckon it's to do with kinetic energy and how you respond to it as a rider. Turbos generally have quite low KE versus the road. This article is quite a good read on KE generally: http://cyclingtips.com/2013/09/climbing-and-time-trialling-how-power-outputs-are-affected/

Hopefully you're in the majority and put more power out on the road. :D I reckon most if not all riders put more power out going uphill regardless of the road vs turbo thing.

Quite interesting. I'm going to have to link my friend Dan to that as he is a monster on hills but absolutely refuses to go above 200W on the flat :p

Strava power readings (yeah, lol, I know) for me on hills are always way higher than anything I put out on the flat. Once the gradient ramps up it's easy to score 3-400W when it never has me doing that on the flat.

As bad as the Strava power estimates are I'm sure you're easily putting that out on lots of hills. One thing that won't be a surprise to anyone less noob with PMs than me but shocked me was just how much power you put out (for a very short time obviously) when accelerating from stopped.

Absolutely, first thing you notice is how little power is required to just tick along a nice flat road.

There's a road just round the corner from me that is slightly downhill for about 0.5 miles. It's a joy to cycle on despite the poor surface as it's really easy to go higher than 20mph with little effort. It's only since I got the PM I realised just how little effort it was - less than 100W to maintain 20mph  Admittedly I was also drafting...

And in a month or two when I'm a bit fitter haha.

But the Bruschetta is superb. Not particularity cycling food, but superb.

I've usually done 30-50 miles by the time I get there so any kind of food is cycling food as far as my stomach is concerned :p

I also am lacking in fitness massively. I didn't wear an HRM on my way home today but with the wind and trying not to let my power drop too much I felt like my chest was going to burst quite a few times...

To be honest Sa Calobra isn't that long, especially for those guys. Quite a common route, I rode pretty much exactly the same when I was out there last year.

Where are you located? Surely you can get most places safely where it's a bit quieter?

First Zwift tonight... was fun! Only did a quick 11k mind as I had dinner to cook. I'll hop on in the morning before work I think. Aim for 30km a day/ 150 a week is what I'm going for at the moment...

This is why I like the wahoo kickr and similar turbos - you can simulate hill climbs by dropping your bike speed right down which gives a much more realistic effect

The trouble with getting your Mrs in to using the trainer is many fold; firstly, she wants to use the garmin for a ride this afternoon, so I could just use strava on the way in, so didn't bother fitting the sensors from the vectors. This led her to just say "why don't you just buy me one then?!"
This is going to get expensive...
This leads to problem 2! I pass things, much like the garmin off as cheap... so the more she starts riding the more she realises that I'm talking out my arse. lol :o

Are you using the vectors for power on the turbo? Guess that's an issue if you have to keep switching them over, but either way if you're using ANT+ with trainer road/similar and a laptop the garmin head unit should be redundant

Heathrow pretty much! Richmond Park is about the closest available option but tbh even that at 5:30/6PM gets queuing traffic. Hoping to move out Berkshire/Windsor direction in the near future so that should be better... although I'll likely start cycle commuting then too :D

Picked up a variety of Planet X stock liquidation cheap bits and pieces last week and tried them tonight.

Agu Zevio overshoes - Very toasty warm and look like they'll do an OK job at water protection... hoping they'll stretch though as they were incredibly difficult to get on!

On-One Perform Merino Leg Warmers - Really comfortable and warm... much prefer them to my crash-ripped Aldi leg warmers.

Agu Secco Long Sleeve Baselayer - For a £10 baselayer it's very nice - not too cold or too hot. I also bought the one with Windbreaker panels on the front but have yet to try it.

Not sure if the winds were just nice tonight or I was actually riding strong... 19.2mph avg over 24 miles. Usually about 16-17 on the same route.

The morning and evening look ok - midday looks rubbish. Friday looks like a disaster at the moment.

Yeah. Annoyingly tomorrow is the first day I'll be free at lunch to resume my normal cycling home routine. I'll evaluate how bad it is at the time but it's going to have to be pretty terrible to put me off.

Friday is a rest day (and also busy work, bleh) so I'm not too fussed. I'm hoping Saturday isn't horrendous though.

Awesome news! Hope your creak is sorted - if not check dropouts for grit and rear hanger too.

Still creaky!

Cleaned and relubed the chain and jockey wheels, undid and reinstalled the chainring bolts with loctite.

Cleaned and relubed the freehub pawls.

Cleaned the drop outs.

Hope it's gone! One of those that doesn't show itself in the stand and on,y sometimes when riding. Take it to the shop and they'd have no hope, just change parts at random I expect!
