Changed brake pads and had a quick go at tinkering with my slightly out of true rear wheel. Tightened a noticeably loose spoke until it felt about the same and it sorted the wonkyness right out. Quite pleased with that.

I am by no means a master wheel truer but I was helped immensely by the fact that the noticeably loose spoke was also on the opposite side of the rim where it bulged slightly.

Saved myself a tenner there.

How long did it take? :p

I'm ready!

Wahoo Kickr arrived on Sunday, but I couldn't play as it came with an 11 speed cassette!

Had a spacer from the LBS and an Ant+ USB dongle turn up today and a 2m USB extension cord. All kitted out, now to see what it's all about tomorrow!

Unless you're consistently doing fast solo rides I'd not worry too much with aero.
Probably 60-70% of my non commuting riding is solo rides where I try to mix up some hill work with more endurance/distance. This year I'm going to concentrate a little more on distance/speed and will be looking to ride more with some of the faster (NFTO) guys to push my riding forwards.
Aren't you also planning to get a disc brake bike soon? Doesn't seem much point spending money on wheels now that you won't be able to move across.
'Soon' is a bit of a misnomer, we're looking to move house in the next couple of months so I really can't look at a new bike/build due to cost/time (ideally I'm looking at £2k+ for a Roubaix/Diverge). But a £400 wheelset to give my my riding a boost (and the Defy) through this year (until I know what funds I have available after the move) is easier to justify. The Defy probably won't be changed this year but when I do I'd keep/sell the wheelset as required for the next bike. ;)
Plot twist: two hours outdoors.
Oh no he didn't! :D
Weather was fantastic yesterday, shame I could only commute due to after work commitments (weekly shop & DIY). As the weekend is meant to be great I've taken today as a rest day... Weather looks like it's going to be fantastic again today so hope I've made the right choice...!:eek:
I now have; Hardtail, Dual Sus, Trainer bike and Aeroad. But there is a really nice Ultimate CF I'd love as a, you know, in between bike.
You need the Ultimate CF for all the mountains you're going to climb this year! ;)

Awesome, you'll love it! Zwift is the way forwards once you've got it all settled! :)

The shop ride for me @9am tomorrow morning is quite a basic one... There's a big football match on too so the end of the ride is cut short to avoid traffic. I'm going to extend from it and looking to do another ~20 miles on top to make it around 50 in the first stage to increasing mileage before the hilly 58 miles in a months time. I've got a free pass until 1pm at the earliest too! :)

You'll love it ;) Which Ant+ dongle did you go for? I know some of them can be a bit flaky, I had problems with my Suunto until I bought an official Garmin one. Been faultless since then.

I've not tried Zwift yet, but I hear it's good. I think I have a free month of TrainerRoad (or you can use trainerroad.com/tcp) that I can give you if you want :) Cracking bit of software.

New carbon wheels should be delivered today, assuming Parcelforce aren't utterly cack...

Chinese I assume?

Good guess :p One set of QR 50mm deeps for me and a set of the same with thru-axles for a friend. I'm a bit worried the seller will have messed up and sent us two of the same kind tbh.

Also, I've never had any issues with my Suuntu Ant+ dongle. I guess I've just been lucky.

Maybe I just got unlucky yeah. Make sure you show us some pics!

Nice. If you want that TR code, let me know. I'm sure it's on my account somewhere :)

What makes you say that? ;)

No problems with my S/H one either (cheers Paul!) :)
Got a hilly 55 miler on Sunday with the local club: http://www.gpsies.com/map.do?fileId=stddswkcqiegjqgd
I'm looking forward to it. It should be just what I need to kick me back into the swing of things.
Enjoy, looks quite a brutal route but awesome long descents on some fast roads! That website is horrible for plotting on lol

Back to wheels I'm afraid guys... General current consensus (which I want to follow for comfort & clearance) is for wider rims when running 25mm tyres. But what do we consider to be 'wide'? 17mm internal is pretty narrow but that does generally lead to a 22-23mm external rim. My Campag Khamsin have a claimed internal width of 20mm which does sound wide, but they're not known to be a particularly wide rim... The H Plus Son Archetype has an external 23mm outside and they are considered 'wide'? Yet the same as the Rapide SL and very similar to the Khamsin? I'm confused :D

I went to Richmond Park this morning at dawn and it was filled with freezing fog! I actually had ice forming on my body and bike. That, combined with the poor visibility, risk of deer collisions and potential for ice patches made it not the most enjoyable ride.:(

it was pretty darn foggy this morning!

Have you tried out that InRide btw Roady?
Failed miserably to source a UK magnet so ordered one from china, it turned up and was still the wrong damn size! DCR talked about 'shaving' a magnet down to size but the ones I've got/ordered are not really shave-able without some kinda lathe. I've not had another go at sourcing one, will probably order another from china based on dimensions rather than some googled forum link like last time...! Unless KK do them as spare parts...?

Rule 5 & 9 apply! ;)

It was 0 here this morning but the ice on my windscreen told me it'd been lower overnight... Someone I work with said it was -2 at 5.30am when she was walking her dogs, yet someone else I work with (lives in Gloucester) said it was 2-3 degrees there at 6 and got colder the closer he got to Hereford. We didn't run any heaters here last night (work with a lot of greenhouses) so I think it was quite a short isolated freeze.

You're right! There are a few long slogs, particularly the one right at the start, I havn't actually ridden that first climb, come down it may a time though, steep. But then some pretty good descending. :)

Hopefully the weather will be decent!
