Anyone used the backup and restore function?

Appears to be completely and utterly broken. Backed up 400GB if content, went to restore on a new PS4, cannot restore due to "insufficient space".

Apparently you have to have to have 50GB remaining space AFTER restoring for it to work, and as my backup is the majority of the 500GB (408GB after formatting the PS4), the restore fails. For some ridiculous reason Sony don't state this or stop you from doing a large backup.

So after not being able to restore I've setup the new PS4 only for my saves to disappear from Watch Dogs (even though I can see them in the cloud). For that I imagine it's Ubisoft being useless once again.

One thing I will say is that the newer revision PS4 is definitely quieter than my launch one that always sounded like a plane at takeoff. However the build quality is worse, the physical buttons are naff and cheap feeling and the light on the top of the console is rubbish comparatively. They've really skimped on these newer consoles to improve their profit margin, much like what happened with the PS3. Annoying for the end user!

I did but I was going to a 2TB so that issue wasn't there for me. I don't think it's hard to make them quiter considering how loud the originals were. Best thing I ever did to my console when I replaced the paste.

While it is gamestop... this is definitely the best deal for PSVR. I bought my PS4 from there and saved roughly £80 from buying elsewhere. However they did increase the price once they noticed they were getting a lot more orders than usual. So be quick if you want one, before they up the price.

I have mine on pre-order with Amazon. Saw this and was tempted but hadn't heard of gamestop before. Looking on Trustpilot, they have over 60% 1 star ratings

if you still have both consoles why not delete 1 or 2 games then do the backup?

seems like an easy enough thing to do. yeah you will need to install 1 or 2 games again but better 1 or 2 than 20.

+1

i think it's rare for someone to backup 500gb to a new 500gb.

usually you do it when upgrading the hard disk.

I can't because I reinitialised the original one before restoring the backup, trusting that it would work.

Only possible option as you say is to get a bigger HDD but I don't want to spend £60 just to get round a problem that they've given me through a poorly implemented restore feature.

They've had some issues with the heat on some of the models, people complaining about the noise of the fans even in a well aired space. I am not sure if there is a fix, it's been reported that they need a good clean often and Sony cheaped out on the thermal paste. If you're out of warranty it might be worth putting a better one on it.

That isn't new. It is the same cheap stuff they used on the PS3. Some cheap white paste that lasts for that 1 year warranty.

At least the heatsink is better on the PS4 than the PS3 Super Slim.

I normally have the surround sound on reasonably loud so doesn't bother me too much. No worse than my old fat and shiny PS3 and that is still going strong...

I've built a few PCs and lapped a couple of CPUs/Heatsinks and although I'm tempted, I'd rather not start tampering with the PS4 any further than replacing the HDD...
