Or are you just basing this on one incident in whichhe was attacked and outnumbered and used one punch against the person attacking him? Because that would be a rather unintelligent way to assess a person's intelligence.

An adult attacked another adult. The adult who was being attacked hit their attacker once. That is "some amount of proportionality".

Yes, he could have taken the risk of trying to grapple with the person attacking him, not knowing how they would react or how the person with them would react. And then what? He's stuck there. Is anyone armed? Will he be attacked from behind? No way of knowing.

It's not that straightforward. Women are adults, not little children.

Had I been faced in that situation I wouldn't have hit her. I've only hit one person in anger (excluding when I played club level rugby) and it was such a distressing event it would take a lot to actively and consciously do it again more so if it was a woman. Yes I know it is daft, but I guess I have this old fashioned ingrained behaviour that hitting a woman is not acceptable. I hugely powerful though so it is a fear in the back of my mind to do serious injury.

Furthermore we don't see or know what happened out of camera shot with the thug which might have caused the woman to react that way.

That said she was daft trying to hit a person who is enough of a neanderthal to actually hit a person older and of the opposite sex. Some people have no boundaries irrespective of who is at fault. Most people would have just walked away or driven away.

You just don't pick on neanderthal-like people - this sort of thing just could have easily been avoided.

Not really a fair comparison. Unless you feel dogs are on the same level of rational thought as humans?

Though I concur some "humans" behave more like animals than human beings.

You overate people.

"Rational Thought" is increasingly being realised to be a myth

(How the researchers test this I am not sure, but there is increasing evidence that the "Rational thought" occurs significantly after the brain has initiated the action. In this sort of situation where the entire interaction takes less than a second, I imagine the "Chav" will have thrown the punch before he even realised he had done it. Much like when Prescott thumped the protester who threw an egg at him some years ago. (My sympathy at the time was with Prescott, despite not being a Prescott fan in any way, shape or form))
 
Old guy doesn't even attend to his wife on the floor... Simply points argues and then tries to hit himself by opening the door into himself and then attempts to sieze someone else's property illegally...

If you have MS and take a swing at a chav, you're gonna have a bad time.

The car was there for about 3 minutes max. Everything would have been fine if they'd just let the bloke alone. He would have been on his merry way without incident. But no, they decided to cause a rumpus.

I love the way the husband leaves his wife on the ground like a sack of bad meat and continues to verbal the driver. Maybe check if she's OK first?! :confused:
 
Aggressive woman attempts to assault a very obvious lower echelon of society and gets smacked.

He shouldn't have punched her, but the woman and man appear to be very aggressive as well. I have encountered people like this when you park a van on a busy street and they come out shouting and swearing in your face. Its hard not to react back when they are so aggressive and vile toward you.

She should have just let them leave instead of escalating the situation.
