What have you done to your car today?

Not today but last week had 2 new tyres, front discs and pads, and a track rod end fitted for the MOT. Now ready for another year of bangernomic motoring in my 2001 Megane. :)

Bought 4 tyres yesterday with a fitting appointment at Halfords at 6pm today. They're open till 8 so thought it was convenient, could swing past on the way home. Got there, my 4 tyres there ready to fit and the whole job was paid upfront online. "Sorry sir, can't do them today, system is down". FFS

I didn't realise robots could fit tyres these days and they were so hopelessly dependent on a computer system.

They are when there is no payment due because the order has been entirely processed online. They presumably had no way of verifying whether the order was paid for or not. Frustrating and unacceptable of course but nothing to do with 'robots fitting tyres'.

Crikey you are rolling out the bizarre analogies tonight :D

Wing mirror housing got shattered on the motorway when a van driver decided to drive so close to my car while overtaking.

Decided to not stop when safe to do so. Absolute idiot. Logged it with the local police but I will have to fork out for a new one. It was a genuine item too, can't seem to find any so I have contacted ac schnitzer uk to see if they have the housing.

Apparently they could see it was paid for - I did ask if I could show him the confirmation to prove I paid for it but he said that wasn't the problem. Apparently they couldn't send the confirmation back to the online system that the job had been done.

As someone who's made a living from advocating and building technology, it's very frustrating when I find myself wishing people used paper systems!

That's my first isn't it?!

EDIT: Oh, iaind has already blown your "bizarre" explanation out of the water. You are certainly full of these strange explanations tonight! ;)

Now now ladies! Gaygle's analogy was amusing and Fox's explanation was perfectly plausible and sensible

Thank you! Robot analogies are always the best. All in good jest. :p ;) OcUK Motors can be a tad quiet from time to time. Maybe I need a new hobby?

Dropped my car off with BBR for some upgrades/maintenance....

Valve spring upgrade (Supertech springs/Supertech Ti retainers)
Valve clearance check (may need to replace buckets...no shims on this engine)
Fit painted cam cover

Oh and these (with some added bits including an airbox, and mapping to suit).... :D

That is going to sound awesome. Can't beat ITBs.

It will have an airbox to start with rather than a big foam filter - having a filter like that on a road car will just be heatsoak central, so I'm expecting it will be a little less raucous than you might expect. But I have a couple of options for fitting a cone filter on a pipe feeding the airbox if I wanted to make it a bit louder :D

Vita - a perfect opportunity to buy a pair of stock mirrors so it looks better. :p

You know something it would actually be financially better to do that. But I really do prefer the acs mirrors. If I can't get any then I'll just get normal ones. Hate the car now though. Had bad luck with it recently lol.

Tried my hand at welding and fabrication today. I done pretty well considering I've never welded before. Managed to make a plate up, and welded it up, tidied it up and you'd never even notice!

Also made up a whole new arch, two bits of sill and then a panel in the floor.

Hopefully it'll pass it's MOT tomorrow.

Done a couple of things today.

First job was to replace the bi-xenon reflector bowls that form part of the projector assembly. They're known for their shiny chrome finish to dull over time, which affects light output. Also took the opportunity to clean the projector lenses whilst they were out.

The new reflectors were bought from a little company in Poland who appear to specialise in refurbishing headlights.

Getting it all apart

Projector assembly removed

And disassembled. The cylindrical part is the solenoid for the movement of the beam cut-off for high beam functionality

New (left) vs old (right). The old ones weren't too bad - certainly not as bad as others I've seen on forums (cars with much higher mileages), but they're still quite a bit duller than the new ones.

All back together, and I cleaned the glass projector lens. A nice layer of dust/crap came off.

Since it's ridiculously sunny outside obviously it's impossible to tell how much better they are, but I'll go for a drive this evening when it gets dark to a) see what sort of improvement there is and b) make sure I've not fitted them upside down or something :D.

The second job was to fit the custom-made bonnet gas struts. The mk3 Mondeo had them, so it's a bit perplexing that the mk4 has the poverty-spec metal bonnet stay.

And I then gave it a wash.

And now it's time for lunch!

Changed the rocker cover gasket yesterday, seem to have sorted the oil leak. But...

... when turning the car back on to check whether it worked I forgot to reconnect the earth (doh!), so it sparked against my upper rad hose and has created a small leak. Very annoying!

New hose has been ordered, just need to get some more jubilee clips and I should be able to sort it tomorrow.

Still learning all this mechanic lark, but I don't help myself when I do silly little things like this!

Told you it would fix it! Was it as easy as I said it would be? :)

And lol that is quite funny... Wind some tape round it until your new one comes... :p

Relatively so, yes.

Electrical tape is all I had so that's trying to help, but it's not helping all that much! Not leaking a huge amount so car is still usable assuming that I check the levels quite regularly.

Rate wish I could get someone to come clean my car, i never can be arsed at all... d9nt trust the Polish people's.

Acme come clean my car, I already have the cleaners, jet wash and rotary polisher ready for you to dig out of the shed. Thanks.
