New ford focus RS

I think it looks too understated. The Mk2 is much more in your face. It's also front wheel driven and slower, though. The lesser number of cylinders wouldn't bother me personally. I used to love that engine in the MPS guise. The torque was immense, so can only imagine what Ford have done to it.

These look fantastic IMO, personally I'd take one over a mk2 without hesitation. I want one badly but have 31 months of my Fiesta ST PCP deal to go so will be waiting a while...

First customers started to take delivery my dealer told me yesterday... Demo car expected in next weeks batch....
Lead time for new orders is now 14 months.. Seams Ford are keeping the numbers to a strict quota... To protect values I guess.

It's always like that with fast Fords. There was a huge waiting list for the Fiesta ST as well :/

It will settle down after a few months.

Looks not, according to TG mag they only build one every 40-50 cars, as they all go through to the rework area for final fitting of bumper and few other items that can't be fitted on track. To give time for the offline work they need to space them out... volumes aren't going to pick up then....

If I went for one it'd be one at 2-3 years old. No thanks to the long wait and no thanks to the first year depreciation on any new car. That's nothing against the RS.

Hi there

Alan the owner of Pumabuild got his Focus RS a few days ago and he has already written a stage 1 remap for the car which has resulted in some very healthy gains, especially torque at 600nm:

Thats a lot of torque, this his is own car and the only modification is the remap. :)

Am I reading that right, it only made around 20BHP but almost 150Nm of torque after the remap over stock.

Yes, though around 40BHP gains in mid-range where there fat torque curve is.

Alan has also altered the launch control settings and done the usual pops, bangs etc over over-run. But the real party piece is the torque gain.

That's quite a large torque gain from the remap, so much so I wonder if Ford deliberately limited the engines torque in order to maintain component reliability. It's basically gone from 450Nm - 600Nm.

I believe 347lb/ft is standard (on overboost).

Who knows, Alan has a good reputation on the mapping scene for Focus and Fiesta models but this is a new platform.

We shall see but this his is own car so I guess he will be driving it hard on both road and dyno looking for any weaknesses.

It'll most likely be down to emissions I would have thought.
