Oooooo Collins. Interested to see where they go with it!
afaik it's an evolution of the Mazda DISI engine used in the MPS. Anyone know if any of the internals forged? (don't think I've seen any comment suggesting this)
The MPS DISI engine seems to be quite weak and a number seem to have popped over the last couple years, so might be 1 of the reasons why the power has been reduced compared to what the engine can quickly do with a map - 240 to 316HP is a 32% increase, so a fair lump... I'm also guessing that's HP at the wheels (despite saying "Eng Power") as I thought it was advertised as about 340 bhp. Is 100bhp a realistic drivetrain loss? seems a lot?
It would be a real shame if the new RS starts throwing rods in the way the MPS is starting to get a reputation for in the owner's group.
New recall now going out safety issues with the rear diff![]()
Here's what I received from my dealer:
Latest News on our Focus RS demonstrator.
We are deeply disappointed to have to advise you that this morning Ford Motor Company have informed us that there is a potential safety issue with a very early batch of Focus RS units.
Unfortunately this includes the demonstrator unit that we were offering you to test drive.
We have taken the decision to delay all test drives until this issue is rectified.
We were looking forward to joining you on the road and receiving your feedback on the car, however we believe our customer and staff safety is of paramount importance. The car is still available onsite to view, however we cannot currently allow the car to leave the site.
We will be in touch further when we ourselves know more.
Once again we are sorry to have to pass on this information.
Whilst there is no official news from Ford, I found this on focusrs.org:
So I'm guessing from that they must have found 'an issue' and rectified it, whilst investigating the problem part. So possibly the diff, but no confirmation just yet.
There will be an official notice to all Dealers tomorrow that this recall has been concluded and all cars can be released immediately
This seems to be a simple case of being exceptionally cautious.
An unidentified car had a problem, the cars that could possibly have the same problem were held, it was quickly established that the problem was a one off.
I would say that this was handled very professionally and unusually very quickly by Ford.

Don't know why we're talking Mazda in a Focus RS thread. Years ago Ford have had a 2.3 Duratec engine that was based on the 2l - a couple of Fiesta ST (mk6) tuners got the 2.3 block, stuck on the ancillaries and head from the 2l and added a supercharger.
Same thing with the 2.3l Ecoboost, based on the 2l engine. Doesn't take a lot to bore/stroke a block to get that extra .3 so I don't see why they'd borrow an old engine and spend loads making it compliant for the latest emissions standards.
