Spanish Grand Prix 2016, Catalunya - Race 5/21

What colour are those McLarens? On the track they look black but in the garage they look a metallic very dark blue/grey. Nice to see one make it to Q3 as well.

Graphite Grey I think, so it's like a black/dark metallicy grey.

LOL :D

Let's see how Rosberg handles Hamilton with a fully functioning car. Not well I suspect. I would laugh if Rosberg lost this championship.

I think it will all come down to the start, if Lewis gets a clean get away and there's no technical/strategy issues, it should be a straightforward lights-to-flag.

Equally, Rosberg is almost guaranteed 2nd, so I don't think he'll be too worried. He'll still have a 36 point lead.

It does make things more interesting going into Monaco though considering how that race has finnished the last few years.

Did anyone who made Q3 use anything but the soft tyre in Q2?

I hope some just outside the top 10 starters mix up their starting compounds, would be great to see some hards and mediums, as those used softs for the top 10 are not going to last long.

What would that look like. A 1-2 with the cars within 10 seconds of each other would be fine either way.

Personally, I would love the Redbulls to get ahead, and have Max hold up the Mercs whilst Ric drives off. Ferrari were good at that, particularly when Schumacher was supporting Irvine.

He hasn't at all. They have both failed 4 out of 4 starts. It's just ros has got away better and got away with it a couple of times. However the rest of the grid has been getting away far faster.

Wasn't Hamiltons start in China the fastest out of the whole grid?

Yes, but as said above that was hardly surprising. He's in the fastest car, and starting at the back meant he accelerated through a far longer rubbered section of track than he would normally do starting near the front.

Plus didn't he bail out of turn 1 and dodged the melee that he would've undoubtedly been involved in ?

Wasn't there talk during the show that Mercedes had talked to AMG about finding a solution to a clutch issues at race starts? Sounded like the problem hadn't been resolved.

I heard that talked about yesterday, i think it was Ted that mentioned it in his qualy notebook.
Wasnt that the issue hasnt been resolved, difficult one to judge, more that he's not heard or seen anything that suggests the clutch issues had been addressed by AMG if i remember right.

Going to watch this one live as I'm packing for work trip

Dunno whether to go for channel 4 stream or. Skygo
As it's been all highlights this year channel 4 do a better highlights program so I may stick with that

I don't expect a very good race today, mainly due to the poor tyre choice by pirelli where there seems to be a very clear cut default strategy and no one really out of position.
Massa might cause a first lap crash

I expect Hamilton to win (Barring any mechanical) I hope at least he doesn't lead the first lap,. If people maintain rough positions post lap 1 not gonna be that good. It is Spain after all

No everyone got through using Softs.

Its a likely 2 stop race, maybe 3, using Softs in all but 1 stint as there is a sizeable jump in speed over the Medium. The Hards won't appear unless someone makes a stupid call and tries a 1 stop.

Why didn't pirelli go medium soft super?
No one will go hard. I expect 2 soft and one medium for most

Not gonna happen as easily as that with DRS. No one could go slow enough these days to let Irvine build a lead.

Because they are terrified of a balls up and the bad PR that goes with it. All the Tyre choices are cautious and safe. Same with Russia.
