Booths & Waitrose

I have used the Booths in Keswick and its really nice

good range of coffee beans and craft beers, lovely fresh bread choice, some good stinky cheeses and top quality sausages and bacon

what more does anybody need?!

I shop in both Booths and Waitrose. I'm probably one of those northern industrialist types who the aristocracy consider so frightful. There's nothing that bothers them so much as a person that has more money than them and flattened vowels. If it were the eighteen hundreds, I would probably be being pursued by impoverished nobles seeking to marry me to get out of their gambling debts.

Booths is alright - quite nice stuff and I think they source locally. And I find Waitrose actually has nicer produce on the whole than Tescos, Sainsbury's et al. which is why I shop there. Though I think it's mostly just what you're used to. But everything they make is now sold under Prince Charles' brand so I'm going off it. No desire to give Charlie any more money than he already gets.

If you want to be actually posh you need to shop at Marks and Spencers where you get the combination of more expensive AND lower quality.

Won't disagree with that. The one time I shopped at M&S out of curiosity, the perishables didn't last very long at all.

Waitrose primarily or Aldi for fresh veg

I have 2 Waitrose within 10 minutes of me, and another 20 minutes away. They are abundant!

They're a lot nicer to shop in imo, as well as having more 'interesting' produce. Waitrose bakeries are awful though, but that's what local bakers are for ;)

I really like Booths, their products are really good, they have a fantastic range of craft beers too. Shame my nearest is 45 miles away in Keswick.

I think Booths is predominantly in Cumbria. Although, I do believe Lancaster has one.

I use the Booth in Penrith when I pop through, you're right about the ales selection its very good, there is one in Settle I seen when working down there.

Who on earth are Booths ? Never heard of them :o.

I like Waitrose for wine and their chicken wings (uncooked, around £1.80).

I detest Asda as it's always a truly horrible shopping experience with no stock but they sell fresh herbs in massive bunches which I like.

Aldi/Lidl are pretty decent but never use them.

Mix it up with the rest depending on who's got the best reduced to clear section that day :p:o.

Booths is a chain of high-end supermarkets in Northern England. Most of its branches are located in Lancashire, but there are also branches in Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester and North Yorkshire.

You've probably never heard of them because you're unlucky enough to live down south.

Used to regularly shop at Booths and Waitrose as I lived in Knutsford until recently. Have moved 8 miles down the road, but wouldnt make the effort to go out of my way to them, particularly Waitrose. Booths does have a really craft beer aisle though.

Unlucky!!!? :mad::p

only rich people, and people with more money than sense, shop at Waitrose

You keep thinking that and fighting your way round lidl and aldi. Meanwhile I'm spending the same, parking for free, taking less time to do my shopping whilst enjoying a complimentary latte.

One in Ripon I believe, pop in every now and then if we ever have a ride through there. Like you say, excellent craft beer selection. Also the fresh orange juice is tasty!

I fight my way around Morrisons :P, and am more than happy to save £5 on basket shop or £30-40 on a trolly shop every week, than goto Waitrose

It takes less time to do the actual shopping but they could always do with opening more tills at ours, although they have just had some self service tills installed so that may help.
