** OcUK HAS 21 CUSTOM GTX 1080 MODELS READY FOR PRE-ORDER !! **

This. At £60 less than a flounders card the G1 was the best card IMO. It has decent cooling and was one of the cheapest cards you could buy anyway.

I regret not going for it initially and maybe should have chosen to switch to it over the MSI. But in terms of the initial purchase the assumption was extra power connectors would matter for overclocking (which they in fact don't), and hindsight is 20 20.

Still going to stick with the MSI however, it's got a really quiet and effective cooler by all accounts and stock due early next week.

The G1 pcb is barely any different from a founders, but with a triple fan cooler, its the least able to justify its price imo

I doubt have a custom pcb is going to make much difference for the GTX 1080 tbf, the quality of the components will have a more effect and even then probably not much.

I've seen little evidence of any real advantage of having more than 1 8pin power connector maybe for WC or LN users, but they probably account for under 1% of 1080 buyers I'd guess. :)

The G1 does have a couple of good features that I'm not sure if other custom models have: The LED above the power connector lights up if it's not connected and blinks if there is a problem with the power, which is pretty useful. And the passive fan speed on idle is great, I don't know if any others do this, if they do they haven't been very good at advertising it. :)

But <smug mode on> I couldn't decide what to buy on the 27th so I waited to see what panned out. Once the 8 pin only didn't look like a big issue I went for the G1 over a EVGA, put my order in 02/06 15th in queue for this rather than in the hundreds at the time for the EVGA and got the card on the 7th. </ smug mode end> :)

Got a decent 2025 OC, could probably push to 2050, but I rather not push it to it's limits. :P It's quiet, no coil whine and completely silent in idle a lot of the time.

Now to decide should I get another? Will my poor old i7 2600K cope? :D

EVGA binning the decent chips for the Kingpin?

Yeah thats my concern with EVGA if they are planning a kingpin, the best chips will havce to come from the FTW and below cards.

It looks a great card tbh and ticks all the boxes but maybe overall it will turn out to be the worst overclocking card you can buy.

Regardless of what card you buy the silicon lottery is always going to be a factor. If i was in the market for a 1080 id snag any third party one that had a quiet cooler and that would be my priority, anything after that is a bonus in terms of overclocking.

That answers my question. Is there a new ETA ? Thanks for the update.

Yup, next week or the following week for the Xtremes. It's best we prefer for the second week. If it comes next week it's a bonus.

A bit annoying as I'll be away the weekend of the second week so probably won't get to play any games until next month and I've already been waiting a while. Oh well, not too much longer to go...

Edit:
Source if you cared.

Strix cards arrive all the time, like 10 every day, but with near 1000 sold its gonna take some time.

Gigabyte G1 arrives next week, order and you will get one.

Gigabyte Extreme next week or week after, hopefully enough to cover all backorders and leave a few spare.

MSI Gaming X next week, but lots pre-sold so unsure if we will have free stock.

Zotac next week, but only to cover backorders.

By end of June a lot of backorders will clear and more cards will show in stock in July, of course people pre-ordering now stand better chance of getting a card sooner rather than waiting.......

Another douchenozzle reviewing a ftw edition

50-60mhz more on the core he got, ouchie,

Owch yeh thats the 3rd review report of underwhelming OC on the EVGA i have heard and a couple more general reports on reddit, binning defiantly appears to be happening....

Think thats made up my mind switching pre order over to the gainward or the K2 HOF. probably HOF

EVGA binning the decent chips for the Kingpin?

It certainly looks like it. I feel sorry for the people waiting on the FTW right now, looks like a long wait for no reward. I'm sure for the 900 cards they charged more for a higher asic value so would make sense the delay is them binning chips when all the other manufacturers are getting cards out.

I'll try and talk my mate into cancelling his pre order and going for the G1, seems pointless waiting for a card from a manufacturer that has binned all their chip's

I went for the Gigabyte Xtreme as I'm pretty sure it is binned, not much more expensive than the G1 and has an extra years warranty.

That's why I couldn't justify downgrading when the G1's first came in stock.

Price of the G1 Gaming has gone up to £619.99 from £599.99, hope my order actually ships today, the order status says "The order is in process".

Price now up to £629.99 on the G1. Mine shipped though so fingers crossed for delivery today! :D:D:D

According to the Oc UK website the G1 and Xtreme have the same 3 year warranty...

I pre-ordered mine before the price went up to £629 though, still happy with my G1 purchase, I'm not putting it under water and will probably just accept the boost clock speed the card gives me upon tinkering/setup.

Maybe I'm naive but I never bothered overclocking my EVGA 970 SC and I probably won't bother with my G1.
