Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

I'll make one more comment, just for you.

Do you think that nVidia have abandoned the segment? Do you purport to have information not privy to the rest of us as to their intentions in that segment? Do you not think you should take the blinkers off and look at the market as a whole as it relates to where the vast bulk of revenue and therefore profit originates?

Why keep opening posts with silly comments like I'll make one more comment just for you"? That just puts me on the back foot and is rather rude in truth but I will answer still.

NVidia certainly haven't abandoned the segment and will have a 1060 coming, as well as a 1060Ti and a 1080Ti etc but I still don't see why a company would send out borked drivers to make their product look bad when they already have the market jump on NVidia. As far as we know, NVidia don't have a response as of yet and when you look at the 1080/70 sales, they can't keep up with the supply and demand of those chips, let alone something else. AMD and NVidia will know exactly what the other is doing, so attempting to play poker would only show the internets a poorer performing card and potentially lost sales. You only have to look back through this thread to see how some got so hyped up and seeing the possible leaks has totally deflated them and with the 970 sitting at around £200, AMD have potentially lost sales to that and even the 1070.

Am I not making sense or?

Ok so lets keep it on the latest Polaris news, what we know so far, the cards are in stores.

What we dont know, actual real world performance stats.

What we have seen, people posting supposed videos of it running Overwatch at 4k max settings

What we dont want to see, endless Nvidia talk in an AMD product thread.

Whats been said, a Dev guy says its a fast card in specific scenarios.

Ultimately we still know very little, we have no hard facts other than purported specs of the card, we dont know anything about its actual real performance, we know it will have its own OC'ing suite, but we know nothing really about this.

Lets carry on speculating, but keeping it on topic and away from the endless back and forth compaing to Nvidia, this is not an Nvidia product, its an AMD product, so lets keep it on topic please guys.

The segment Polaris is targeted at is the 970/980 (in competitor terms) and NVidia stopped making them some time back, so not sure what your point is. Anyone considering a 970, 980 or 480 would see the leaked benches (assuming they are on forums) and see purposefully gimped performance but have no idea that AMD are holding back performance drivers to make their card look bad, what card would they get? We have already seen that a 970 scores higher in VR tests, so grab a 970 now for the same money or wait it out for what potentially looks worse performance.

Call me sensible but purposefully holding back performance drivers would be nuts and marketing suicide from my POV. If they have improved drivers, that makes sense but noway would they hold back performance drivers.

Call you sensible?
Sensible is laughing at the amount of swinging up/down this card has been branded as having from a 960 - 980ti and understanding that we have less than a week to know exactly how it performs. So the SMART thing to do is WAIT. I have shown prices recently of GTX970 / GTX980 and R390X and potentially now is the worst time to consider any of them as a likely buyer myself.

Many expect it will be the best performing card in its price sector, with all the new benefits the 14nm brings because THAT is what it is aimed at doing. If Nvidia can bring a 1060 based card in at similar price/performance then great more options and competition to drive the prices down rather than what we see with 1070 & 1080.

Call me what you like, regardless of leaked benches, I will be buying one!

Granted i'm new to watching GPU releases but it seems daft that no confirmed performance stats are available for the RX480 so people like me can make an informed decision before the 29th.

So is sensible discussion on comparing to alternative or similar costing products not valid discussion?

It just leads to endless bickering and arguments and one-up-manship.

Probably best to just discuss the product at hand really where possible and speculate etc, obviously comparisons are inevitable, really there is no hope as sooner or later it just spirals into bickering haha..

As im writing this im thinking.. why bother, as its all going to go south again soon anyhow :)

Warehouses.

Non-gaming, test code. Which can be said for any card.

There is no point discussing anything based off that reddit post. It's likely fake anyway, too many butthurt fanboys trying to "turn the tide" by whatever means necessary. Not sure what they think will happen when it's released and tested and people have spent money on them, guess they aren't thinking that far ahead.

I'm looking forward to seeing exactly how it performs. i'll look forward to your review aswell :)

I am looking forward to it. Not sure what testing methodology I will be using as of yet but will see how it does at 1440P and 1080P and go from there. I might have to use 1080P for recording, as I had a PITA time with Raptr and trying to record the Afterburner overlay with my Fury X but my Avermedia capture card had no problems but restricted to 1080P sadly :(

Is this an invitation for rename suggestions ;)

I am a bit of a wind up merchant at work, so I doubt there is anything you can come up with that I haven't already been called :D

Some I think enjoy the arguing perhaps are just fanboys of Nvidia. I personally do not like people saying stuff at one end of the performance potential then contradicting themselves several posts later then stating the opposite.

Most being sensible see 390x type performance at this price point achievable and see that not only as very good value but more than enough for 1080p 60 gaming, here the card will shine most. The PR regards the VR is questionable as I doubt most people able to currently afford or have such would be buying an RX480 to power it.

What's wrong with making an informed decision on the 29th? You can't buy one before the 29th anyway.
