Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

Why are you picking a review that only shows Pre OC models. Will we be waiting for Pre OC 480's before we judge. The fairest way is stock v stock and the 390 is clearly faster.

So someone with ref 970 overclocked shouldn't compare, or i shouldn't compare my g1 1418 at stock, just because it's not reference. So then I shouldn't compate my g1 at 1600mhz because it's not fair.

Get real, everyone in this thread is looking at 2 things with the 480.
The baseline performance and the average max overclock performance, whether it be from the reference or aib cards.

Well said - the majority voted for this and now are moaning since prices are higher.

There is no pleasing people in this country.

Some of us moaning did NOT vote for this.

He said majority. Just like more voted for a simple IN/OUT referendum to take place by electing the conservatives who had pledged to do exactly that than for any other party. So really, this has been a doubly clear mandate from 'the people', even if some of us didn't agree with either vote outcome. But I still agree with our democratic system even if it means we shoot ourselves in the foot occasionally. If I didn't, I wouldn't be here (and may not be, in the future :p)

Waiting on card news now though. Perhaps the 480 will cheer me up :)

We are talking about reviews here. If you want to compare then compare to people who have a card and are overclocking. Comparing a stock 390 to an overclocked gtx970 is daft. It's not like the 390 won't overclock. For a fair comparison it's always stock to stock when looking at reviews. On here anything goes so feel free but your comparison is mute when you want to compare stock to overclocked. As it's obvious the overclocked card will be making the results look rather different.

This look fair enough to you. The gtx970 is not even on there as it's to slow :D:D

Erm because people think the 480 is 390 speed and it will be up against the 970 at launch.

Kinda stupid going on what people 'think'.

I duno why people cant just wait for something solid.. there are other things more important in life but it seems for quite a few in here a GPU is a prority in their lives.

Im just sick of seeing what people 'think' when i have to trawl through all the crap in here, its tedious.

I'm not disagreeing but some amd people on here are forgetting the difference between a stock ref 970 and a clocked one, just as much as a stock 390 vs oc 390.
Then will they remember to compare stock 480 vs stock 970/980?

Lol the 970 is 10%-13% behind ref 980. 970 at 1550-1600 = 980 roughly.

To me there is a difference if it's said to be 970 performance and not 390 performance because that would mean a similar price/performance to the 390. Especially in new games with the way things are going the 390 is stretching it's lead. I didn't mean to open up a can of worms.

It is being used in terms of 480 performance, so pretty relevant.

still sticking with it will be 980 stock + at 1266; that's in DX11 and at least nano speeds in DX 12

You can't have 5.8 TFLOP card digressing to 970 speeds specially way crimson has gone and have 390 which is 5.1 TFLOPS and now 10% faster than 970......

Where it falls after Overclocked......is the real mystery; specially with aftermarket cards - Sapphire has said 1500mhz was real....but how often is another question :D

doubtful - the pound is recovering after its very low dip lastnight of 1.3218 its about 137.15 right now; it won't drop any lower; but will come back over 1.40 over the next few days -

Can I have next weeks lottery numbers please? I will split profits 50-50

The gtx970 being to slow was just a laugh.

Was the 1500MHZ an out of the box clock or a possible clock, that is important.

I've given in....

Purchased an EVGA 1080 SC Gaming 1080, the price was good (sub £580) and should be arriving tomorrow.

This whole EU referendum has buggered up my GPU purchase, i'd of waited for the 480 but with later leaks looking like it's not the game changer i want it to be and the fact that i foresee volatility in terms of the British pound over the next few months - i sucked it up.

God how i detested paying that much for a GPU! But it's been over 2 years since i purchased a GPU and i wanted to get something better than the 290x.

Surely clock for clock it's bound to be faster than a 970. So with that in mind with 1266mhz it should be a comfortable lead for the 480.

Hang on so through fear of a £20 uplift on a £180ish gpu, you went and bought something for 3x more?

Carney has done a good job with steadying things with Bank of England - we've seen most of the markets recover - and I've been watching pound all day and once it recovered from 1.32 it quickly went back up 1.36. Its been bouncing between 1.36 and 1.37 all day. Its not going to drop any farther; but will slowly climb back up to at least 1.40 over the next few days.

*also talked with one of my older brothers' who's got his master's in finance who pretty much agrees with that*

In addition to that the unimpressive performance in the recent leaks.

I don't care whether a GPU is £200 or £600 - i care that i feel i'm getting something good for the money.

If the 480 turns out like suspected (And currency issues is pushing it higher), it leaves Nvidia as my option... Only option i'd consider with them is 1080.
