Just bought all 3 S.T.A.L.K.E.R games...

While I agree. They do take away some of the charm of vanilla in my opinion. Great franchise and shocking that it doesn't have a bigger following really.

They are great games but looking at Steam; 99% of the negative reviews are people who either can't launch the game or get constant crashing. Even on release the game had massive issues with it's engine's stability and it's just gotten worse with each O.S. that comes out.

Runs great on my 1.6ghz duo core integrated 2008 laptop, but on my desktop with a 3570k/1070GTX? Nah, no point even trying. :D

Does Call of Pripyat have a recreation of Pripyat? I recently visited there and would love to see a digital recreation of it (even if it did include mutants shooting at me!).

Never had much crashing that I remember or any problems apart from a bug right at the end of COP that wouldn't allow me to progress. I used the complete mod for all three which I believe makes the gfx prettier and fixes some bugs, while maintaining most of the gameplay mechanics etc. Although looking on other sites it seems the complete mods are outdated now and there are much better mods about that do a better job.

Yeah it's a shame. Its one of those games that takes a bit of getting into and people don't seem to have the patience these days. I see it all over the net people saying they tried to play and gave up after an hour or so, which just inst enough time to get to grips with it. The steam reviews are good though, COP is overwhelmingly positive.

I'm not sure though it wouldn't surprise me if something like that is in the works / has been done. Here is a good place to start searching:

Great games, CS used to crash a fair amount for me though for some reason.

Crashed in DX10 mode? If so, try deleting the microsoft update KB2670838 to enable DX10 without black screens / crashes. Alternatively, you can run it in DX9 if you want / need to.

Ok, decided to start with the first one. Damn, the game is pretty tuff eh? Seems as if the enemies can take about 8 bullets and I can take 2 or 3! Can I assign a quick command for bandages/med kits? And what does the energy drink do?

Liking it so far though...

Yes, it's a game that won't hold your hand much, e.g. weapon accuracy and so on. You should be able to set keys for quick bandage / medkit use. The energy drinks aren't of much use imo: a quick burst to your sprinting reserves but it very soon runs out. In fact the only mod I've ever seen design the use of stimulants well was Misery 2 for COP.

Bought stalker games years ago, played a little of em but i just couldnt get into em for some reason. The whole radiation fields where you flip bullets i think it was at them was annoying me as slowing my progress down.

Hope you like em tho, supposedly some good games.

Oh and i stumbled upon this incase anyone wanted to try it. Apparently its a early build of stalker 1 that is more akin to the true vision of the devs before they changed things for retail version.

Such a great game when you get into it, i do love the complete mod and then usually the realistic weapon mod.
I usually mod a bunch of things to suit how i like to play also.

But such great atmosphere and i feel like stuff like that just does not get made anymore which is a shame.

Reading this makes me want to play it again :).

also i found that setting up readyboost with a 16gb sd card seemed to speed up the loading of the game IIRC quite a big difference, i dont have a ssd so maybe different for those that do.

Hope you enjoy the game.

The STALKER games really are top notch. They just have a unique feel to them that no other game I've ever played has ever matched.

My fav was call of Pripyat I think, and it's definitely worth trying the mods out and seeing which you like best.

Really wish a new one would come out too.

Is there a mod so that when you're 2m away from somebody and you shoot them, you actually have a chance of hitting them?

The weapon accuracy will vary from mod to mod. All I can say is to try different ones / look at the mod description before you download on moddb. Some mods are so vastly different from the vanilla experience that you can't really compare them. Personally, I've never found the weapon / combat mechanics a problem. In fact, I like it. :)

Ok getting the hang of it now. After dying a few times trying to clear out the bad guys and getting the flash drive on the first mission, I found the silenced gun and went in alone rather than take the other guys with me. Skirted round the edges and picked most of them off before going in with the newly acquired shotgun and finishing off the last 2. Awesome! It's getting it's hooks in to me now...

No issues so far using the ZRP mod. No problems playing at 3440x1440 resolution either!

The weapons get much better as you progress. The start of the game throws you in at the the deepend. You can find a decent MP5 early on that is modded. You can also find a decent shotgun and a few hours in a rapid fire ak47 that is beastly.

Later on your look at those first few days game play as some of the best survival moments your find on the PC.

Some basic tips. Weapons are junk early on your need to use stealth early on and pass danger spots without alerting bandits.

Find the trader your soon be able to get some good upgrades.

Find the artifact that removes radiation then a boost to stanima.

Avoid electric anything early game it will kill you fast.

Take your time with the game. It's one of my best single player experience gaming. Bugs crashes errors and all. This was using complete mod

O and if you see mutant dogs run!!!

Due to the age of the game, I expect you're experiencing very fluid, crisp performance. I bet it looks great at your resolution too! :)

It does! I'm trying to take a screenshot but it's not working even though it lists F12 as the screenshot key in the control options?...
