Just bought all 3 S.T.A.L.K.E.R games...

Buy some from a trader or scavenge for them. You're playing a modestly enhanced version of the vanilla game, so iirc food will restore some health. Try and eat some bread / tuna and see what happens.

Sweet, saved by the bread. Didn't take long to find some more medkits though. The game certainly has its own unique feel, I love that.

misery 2.2 seems to be taking forever to complete, last update in june
the coder has gone on vacation when he's back there are just a few things to finish
, so maybe in the next couple of months.

for the record i've never played the misery mods as i've been waiting for 2.2

The first time you enter the wild territory (and then onto yantar, etc) the atmosphere just hits you like a ton of bricks, it's almost palpable and no other game since has come close to it in my opinion (except maybe the metro games, but they still have this artificial feel to them).

The thing with Stalker is that it's not just the graphics, but every other aspect of the game, like the random background noise, the distant growling and screams, the brooding dark ambient sound track, it all just draws you in and makes you truly feel like you are in uncharted territory and could die at any moment.

I can remember first playing it on my x1900xt 512mb, playing it at 1280x1024 res, barely getting 30fps, yet it was and still is probably the best gaming experience of my life. What a game.

Totally agree, the atmosphere is on another level to most other games. One of the creepiest moments ive had in a game was venturing into the red forest in CS . The ambient sounds coupled with the darkness and mutants everywhere was terrifying.

The red forest is quite a challenging place. It's an area that I really do like to take my time over. :)

Need some help guys. I trying to find the weapon of the 'Prospective Dutyer' and I can see it marked on the map but it must be underground or something because I standing right on the marker. I've been looking for ages and can't find it. It's in the same place you get the lab key from Borov...

strange mission that is as the weapon is not actually there, it's carried by a bandit named friar. And to be honest he can be all over the place, sometimes at or in sterlocks hideout, the bandit base. that mission is time based tho so i'd go back to a earlier save and not accept that mission until you actually have the gun. then when you do use it until it's broken then give it him lol.You might have actually already picked it up and dropped it/broken it.

The misery mod seems pretty good http://www.miserymod.com/

Played this for the first time last night

started game picked sniper class walked forward for 12 seconds got owned by 5 dogs
re loaded save took my time, killed 2 dogs got savaged by the other 3
re loaded again tried to run like a sissy girl, got caught up and mauled again.
re loaded again double barrel shotty, one shot to the face of a dog, just laughs and mauls me AGAIN

Now i've completed vanilla and complete numerous times over the years but this is something else.At least we know why they called it misery lol

Totally agree, Stalker is easily my favourite game. Going down into Agroprom for the first time is the finest gaming moment ever.

This is a great article on Stalker, GSC and Stalker 2

So gutting that Stalker 2 was so far along before being cancelled :(

Did you opt for the black road beginning? That was nerve jangling! :)

no i've started out in the middle of no where. but i take more than 50 paces and i have 5 dogs on my backside, they are stupidly powerful compared to vaniila and complete lol.

how do you activate black road? i think i picked the unreccomended easy mode for my first try
