Just bought all 3 S.T.A.L.K.E.R games...

Ah thanks. I think I just found a gap in the fence just past the guys at the bridge too. What is the green spoon and fork icon on the hud all about? Do you need to eat every so often? What happens if you don't?

Yeah, sometimes there's more than one way to approach a situation, which is one of its charms in my opinion.

The cutlery icon represents hunger/and/or thirst (depends on the mod, but they basically mean the same thing). Usually it will start off as the colour green, which indicates only a very minor problem, then a slow change to yellow/orange will occur if food isn't found. Finally, this will eventually become red: if you don't find food or some way of booting your health, you'll perish.

Ah, cool idea. Reminds me of that mode you could play in Fallout New Vegas...

Really getting into this now. Just lost 3 hours in the blink of an eye. One thing though - it's a fair treck back to the trader for cashing in loot and collecting rewards - is there no fast travel in the game?

I don't believe so, no. Although you have modded it, it's pretty much a refined vanilla experience (which is ideal for a first playthrough), and as far as I know there isn't a fast travel. You could take a look at the modifier to see if there's an option for it, but I don't recall noticing anything like that.

I just bought the final game in the series as well on the sale. I've never played any of them but from what I have read they are meant to be really good games to play. Looking forward to having a play on them over the coming weeks.

I also love games you can mod as it gives you so much re-playability.

Here's a tip for you, in each of the various zones find a permanent box you can store loot in, i.e. a chest or other container. Then when you are ready to cash in your 5000kg collection of guns etc, kill a bandit and drag his body to your stash, put all the loot on the body and drag that to the nearest trader. You can't drag a body over a map change line, so just have another body on the other side to transfer stuff on to. Or just restrict your loot stashes to only the maps with traders.

It is slow to drag a body no doubt about it, but you only have to do it once and sell it in one go, rather than doing like 50 jogs back and forth from your stash. You could also mod the game to make it so you can carry infinite weight, but that kind of ruins the feeling of the game as you will just be tempted to carry all the guns/ammo/health packs. Just ignore that fact that you are still able to pull a corpse weighing several tonnes just fine.

I can feel yet another replay of this game coming on, it would be the fifth time.

Some good tips there.

Check out the mod Autumn Aurora 2.1 on moddb.

Already played AA, along with Vanilla, Oblivion Lost and Complete. AA was probably the best, but I did like the way Complete changed the weather in the last level. In was a nice change to play it glorious sunshine rather than the dreary ****ing down rain, as it seems to be hard coded to do in all the other mods.

In that case, try OGSE 0.6.9.3. My personal favourite thus far.

I still don't think it's as good as the tech demos back in the day made out it would be :(

WTF! Just got through the underground tunnels after helping mole - this beast started sucking me towards him, didn't even realise it was killing me until it was dead. After reloading I was in such a panic running away from it I couldn't get up the ladder! lol Class.

Question: on the map display in the top left of the screen, what do the yellow numbers represent on the bottom right corner?

These threads always make me want to play through the games again. Is the Lost Alpha mod worth a play? Looks quite good from a quick look on Youtube.

Yes, I would play it. I found it to be a bit of a slow burner, but I enjoyed it more and more as time went on. Good ending as well, imo. I'll play it once again when they release the developer's cut.

Any advice for when you run out of medkits? Aside from don't. Does eating food or anything else restore health aside from bandages?

Buy some from a trader or scavenge for them. You're playing a modestly enhanced version of the vanilla game, so iirc food will restore some health. Try and eat some bread / tuna and see what happens.
