The next Labour leader thread

If the Labour leader believes his MP's arent speaking for their constituents (a vast majority of them arent, considering the remain MPs in Leave areas are), then he can just ignore the MP's if he wishes.

The Vote was also unbinding, how very unfortunate.

You could take that view, but it seems to me that it is important for a leader in parliament to command the support of his MPs.
I agree that there is a disconnect between many people and politicians (which brings into question how representative MPs actually are), but I do not agree that this is defined along some hard-left fault-line.

I agree, but unfortunately that seems to be the stance a lot of the PLP are taking. "Unelectable" has become a synonym for "I don't like how left your views are". Realistically Corbyn didn't win because he was a bit more to the left of the other candidates - other lefties have stood before, and their views aren't even that different, they're all in the Labour party after all. He won because he was the best candidate, who inspired the most people to his side with a strong message and actually demonstrating an understanding of the issues the party faces as well as a plan to help tackle them. Rather than just trying to take the middle ground on everything for fear of upsetting any potential demographic, when in reality upsetting all demographics equally in the process.

Judging by Eagle, the PLP still haven't learned this lesson.

By a smidgen.

Anyway, here's Corbyn's reply:

If anything, this chicken coup has increased Jeremy's confidence and improved his statesmanship - he looks much more comfortable in interviews and speeches now than he ever has before.

Its because he's won against the dumb politicrats in the Labour party, i think anybody would be happy.

Lol if you think she's electable in any way.

Holy **** guys!

She thinks she's on the left. Mind. Blown. Elect her leader now.

I can only assume Angela Eagle is a stalking horse candidate. She's woefully unsuited to the job. I gave up listening after about a minute. One thing I will say though; the blinking does a splendid job of detracting from that whiney voice...

I see that the labour party are desperately trying to keep Corbyn off the ballot papers if there is a forced leadership election.

How undemocratic and damaging would that be to their party? There's about 200,000 paid labour members who are quite happy with Corbyn at the helm. Just because blairite MPs don't like him, surely they have to listen to their constituents??

We're already going to end up with an unelected conservative prime minister, and everyone was bemoaning the 'unelected EU officials' prior to the brexit referendum.

You couldn't make this up...

Remember when you had people like Andy Burnham supporting the nomination of Jeremy Corbyn last year because having a true left-wing candidate on the ballot would have been good for democracy? lol what a mistake-a to make-a.
