The next Labour leader thread

I'm a trade union member of Unison and I did not have or have been told about any poll... So I call shenanigans on that YouGov poll.

I'm not surprised. The union has over a million members. If you had been, it'd have been quite the pot luck!:D

But, yes, some things should be read with more caution, for example -- what does 'how unlikely do you think JC will ever become PM' mean? That figure could include people who think he's un-electable, but could likewise contain people who think the situation is bad, the electoral set up doesn't favour Labour, a party split is likely regardless or they aren't even Labour members. But in context with the other questions and the situation on the ground and other polling, you can begin to piece together a countrywide picture.

It's not perfect, and you do need to take some salt with it and put a thinking cap on, but it's far from useless.

I don't think you understand how polling works.

Death threats and vandalism. The situation with Labour gets uglier by the day.

I wonder if Angela got her offices smashed because she tried to kidnap that Australian boy?

I wouldn't be surprised if this was staged by Eagle's team similar to that silly Tory MP who added a death threat herself to an email and then got found out...

I've only just joined the labour party in order to ensure Corbyn gets voted with a stronger mandate than before, It's funny that they say he's unelectable considering he's brought hundreds of thousands of new members to the party membership, has the backing of the unions etc etc. Hell even Thereasa May isn't willing to risk a snap general election because despite the chicken coup, while Corbyn leads the conservatives would be wiped off the map, particularly after Brexit!

Apparently the NEC has voted to have a secret ballot on whether or not Corbyn can get into the contest without nominations. I'm not very impressed by that, at least have the decency to stand by your vote.

With a secret ballot, it doesn't look good for Corbyn. I wonder whether we'll see other challengers once/if Corbyn isn't on the vote.

With the intimidation, threats and violence towards eagle, a secret ballot is the only sensible option

Union member doesn't necessarily mean Labour voter, either. It's quite a jump to connect the two, certainly when you look at unions outside the public sector like USDAW.

What puzzles me is this, Corbyn has the support of ~500,000 members, so if he has their support doesn't that mean the rest of the MP's in labour should follow suit? as in to represent the 500,000+ Labour members wishes?

If the other MP's ignore Corbyn, are they not ignoring the members too?

The Labour members are meant to represent the Labour voter i presume?

So what's the Other MP's agenda besides them not liking Corbyn or that they think he would never be voted to be PM.

What's their problem? I don't think he is going anywhere.

raising tax rates doesn't necessarily bring in more tax revenue, the opposite in some cases actually. Cracking down on tax evasion is one thing but trying to reduce a gap for ideological/envy reasons is pointless and likely self defeating... it seems like some on the left, as Maggie pointed out, would prefer everyone to be poorer so long as the gap has narrowed.

I know you can't respond at the moment but the PAC demonised private companies for making money out of the public sector. It's seen as a real negative in the world by MPs. That said, two of the major service providers of outsourced IT have facilitated the reduction of the tax gap year on year for over a decade now at a fraction of the gain in increased revenue, and now HMRC and the other government departments are being pushed to take everything in-house and self manage their IT. They have no skills, knowledge, expertise or experience in doing this. What does this result in? TUPE and massive growth in employees within the civil service.

How does this improve anything? The costs may now remain within the civil service but all that will do will enable the beancounters more freedoms with their own internal budgeting, meaning IT costs will very likely spiral upwards they just won't be going to private entities any more.

Great.

I think the Labour party would be dead and buried if they conspire to get Corbyn out by not even nominating him.

So much for saving the party, their support would evaporate overnight.

Corbyn's socialist army showing how a just and democratic society will operate. I wonder where we've seen this before...

Well, that's the rub isn't it. Corbyn's anti-Farage, but he also has an equally weak reach and influence over the populist undercurrents of the fringes he directly or indirectly inspires, even if his own approach is rather mild. You can just see him calling for calm in a riot while people tear each other apart. It would not work.:(
