Misogyny

Sort of on topic, did anyone else read this article? It actually moved me... must really be horrible being a woman sometimes.

The irony is clearly lost on nitefly. Who do you think buys the magazines those photographers sell to? I'll give you a clue...it's not men.

Knowing about other people's private lives is interesting but the magazines promote it in an unhealthy way. I don't think magazines are immune from criticism because people buy them.

Good news, misogyny certainly is a form of hatred based on prejudice and it should be punished accordingly.

The rule as written makes it a hate crime for a man to ask a woman directions to somewhere, for example. But, crucially, only that way around.

The only purpose of such broad laws is to strongly enforce division between people of different sexes, to grant people of the "right" sex massively privileged status, to make society a hostile environment for people of the "wrong" sex and to promote sexism. Which, of course, is why feminists are so much in favour of them.

I think that blatantly and deliberately sexist laws and overt lies about what constitutes hatred are not good news. Not good news at all. But then I'm one of those weirdoes who is in favour of sexual equality. Which is "obviously" hatred of women, of course.

Can't we go back to the good old days when women were made for cooking, making babies and cleaning? A pat on the bum was a compliment then too, win win.

Naughty trollery! :)

I'd like to see sexual equality, but that would require getting rid of feminism and that's not likely to happen. So we'll probably continue to see increasing antimale sexism with an increasing rate of increase until it becomes unsustainable and either male people are eradicated or there is growing antifemale sexism...etc, etc.

Sexism breeds sexism. It never does anything else. It's wrongness and stupidity piled on wrongness and stupidity and it's unworthy of a supposedly intelligent species. It shouldn't be tolerated, let alone written into law (as it is increasingly being) and working practices in policing, education and workplaces (as it is increasingly being).

Egalitarianism > feminism, and anyone telling you differently is already showing prejudice towards men.

Feminism was needed when things were so far out of whack it was untrue, but that time has been and gone.

Exactly. I am rarely serious about anything which is why you won't find me in any politics threads apart from little pokes at humour or genuine questions. People take life way too seriously, you only have one, enjoy it!

Reminds me of black lives matter, oh we will just ignore statistics of unarmed white people who get shot by the police....

I've corrected the title of the thread.

On the subject, some of the wording is worrying. A woman shouldn't have to worry about walking down the street due to catcalling and whistling and so on. It just shouldn't be a factor. That said, 'unwanted text messages' and unwanted sexual advances and ‘unwanted or uninvited physical or verbal contact or engagement’ is all very woolly.

If an unwanted advance is 'can I buy you a drink?' or 'would you like to go for a coffee?' is that now a crime if the target declines the offer?

"Uninvited verbal contact or engagement" can be interpreted as any initiation of conversation. Asking for directions would fall under this category.

Is now a hate crime in Nottinghamshire.

Personally, I welcome the move.

I'm surprised this hasn't been picked up on and posted here already to be honest. I'm even going to post your favourite media outlet's take on it. Behold the Daily Mail.

Come on OcUK, don't let me down, please.

Reddit hates women even more than the Daily Mail so it must be having an absolute meltdown :D
