84 Confirmed dead after another apparent terrorism attack in Nice, France,

Utterly disgusting act, not only the numbers killed are unfathomable but I imagine the numbers of injured and also very high.

This has affected me more than any other attack of recent, I felt myself welling up this morning when listening to a report by a journalist who works for the spectator. I think it is the sheer brutality of it.

Just horrendous.

It should be made clear that Islam is peace and Christians do bad things too.

LOL

INB4 nothing to do wit....... too late its already being said, heads. in. sand.

I blame those atheists and of course the west.

And on the other hand you just declared war on god. Every nutjob will come out the woodwork.

Not to mention the inevitable innocent deaths that will push people to their cause.

Think it through.

Ahhh there it is, dont fight it then, capitulate yea? our resistance to them is only making it worse right?

Terrible story, my heart goes out got the victims and those close to them.

After this i guess we should expect more terror attacks to use large vehicles like in this one. Seems to be very hard to defend against

Another sad day with Isis getting exactly what they want huge air time and legitimisation in the media with the added bonus that people will continue to point fingers at all Muslims which creates the divides and tension and hatred that drives new recruits to the cause.

France has a huge problem with poor imigrants living in almost ghetto like conditions a perfect recipe to breed terrorists.

This problem has been in part caused by us going to war in the Middle East without defining success and what to do after success was achieved so to those advocating war how will we know we've won and what should we do to fill the vacuum we leave behind in a region that will be awash with fear and poverty?

What a load of rubbish, making up excuses for the terrorists, nice one.

I grew up on a poor council estate as do many people from a multitude of backgrounds, the violence seems to stem from only one section of that community which has already been discussed on GD at length. Additionally, my grandparents were refugees during the last world war, their home occupied by Russia, they did not become terrorists or radicalised either.

sadly I feel this is all leading up to all out War on many fronts, what with china and the states, russia and the states, north korea and south, the middle east, the list goes on.

ISIS seem to be at least adding to the instability of Europe, if not majorly responsible.

RIP to the victims.

What terrible news, those poor people, and there were whole families there. I don't even want to hear how many were children. I'm surprised this kind of attack hasn't happened much sooner and fear it may be some kind of a floodgate for simple no weapons needed, brutal, effective terrorism.

This world :(

Well they are starting to arm more of them.

We have specialist armed police at specific places, airports etc fine. I am on about we don't need to be arming the general police force.

We managed to survive a ~30 year bombing campaign by the IRA. Fighting terrorism is hardly new to us. And so far we have had 1 terrorist attack in how many years? I didn't live under fear of terrorism with the IRA I dont live under it now with ISIS

How would you propose to stop a similar incident in the uk? Throw their handcuffs at the lorry?

With 80+ dead at the minute, they hardly stopped it happening did they. I would imagine most of the dead where at the start of the attack, once people had realised what was going on the crowd would have naturally scattered.

If someone wants to go out and randomly kill the public, people are going to die and the time delay of deploying an armed response unit isn't going to make a hell of a lot of difference.

I was referring to home grown prats sorry. Well one would assume if the prats start buying materials on making bombs which is noticed they would be picked up by police. Well I would assume they'd be followed first to see if they could find some more interesting people before getting the police to pick them up.

I am referring to the people we wouldn't catch at borders as they're already here. Like Lee Rigby's killers(I cant remember their names sorry). As far as I'm aware they were without foreign help from isis.

I think the only way we can be effective in doing that is by allowing the government to further snoop and spy on its own citizens. That isn't a particularly popular option amongst many though.

We stop more attacks happening than you know. The secret is in proactive intelligence, not reactive defence.

Oh I have no doubt that we do and as I have already posted I congratulate our police forces for doing so. However, your response assumes a 100% success rate. How should the police respond if they let just one of these incidents occur? There would be huge loss of life before an armed response team arrived.

Those aren't excuses. What exactly do you propose to do about this 'section of the community'? Round them up (just like Russia did) and send them to Syberia or other countries? Are you grandparents proud of you sharing views with terror states?

The news is reporting this guy had a gun and hand grenades as well. They also said there were reports there was another person involved.
