84 Confirmed dead after another apparent terrorism attack in Nice, France,

Every state needs strict border controls now. Enough of this free movement nonsense.
So how do you feel that would help in this case? Or many previous cases?
Obviously it might be a wonderful way forward, stop movement of anyone... Yup, there goes trade.
Anyway, in the real world, how are you going to stop British Citizens in Britian?

He was a French citizen.

The guns and grenades he had would have come across the border. Whilst we are waiting for this to be investigated it is likely to involve others. Previous attacks involved people in many countries. The news this morning are already reporting the lorry was placed in Nice for him to use.

Because no smuggling of illegal goods ever happened before we had free movement of people?

Removal of border controls would make it a lot easier to smuggle stuff wouldn't you say?

Think the time has come for France to put a temporary ban on Muslim migration to their nation until their authorities can figure out what is going on. Let them deal with the problem they have rather than import more problems.

Border checks don't stop smugglers as they dont all come across waving passports. What do you want, minefields and wire across each border?

It might make it easier, but it didn't stop illegal items being available to anyone who wanted them before

So, it's pretty irrelevant

No it's not irrelevant. Would you support removal of border controls between the UK and France?

** Make your point but don't make it personal.. **

Do you think someone smuggling weapons into Europe is going to turn up at a checkpoint and hand over their passport? They'll simply cross somewhere in the middle of nowhere at night, same as smugglers have been doing since borders were invented.

Border controls are not the solution, they're just a slogan for feeble-minded flag-waving idiots. As has always been the case, terrorism isn't beaten with wars and walls.

Well if the availabilty of illegal items is just the same with or without border controls then yes, it's pretty irrelevant - it doesn't matter how much more difficult it is for the smuggler if the end availability is the same.

:)

The pattern of the perpetrator having a history of criminal activity before carrying out one of these attacks seems to have been the case in all the recent attacks in Europe.

Looks to me like the disillusioned of a certain community are simply looking for a way out. Maybe in a more secular setting they would just commit suicide but in their fantasy world martyrdom is the honourable way.

Religion is a dangerous crutch when it's users get disillusioned with life.

Yes they do. Border checks detect explosives and weapons. It is also easier to pick up someone that is known to the security services. We will need to wait and see from the investigation as whether this individual was known. However the fact the lorry was placed in Nice ready for him suggests this was organised and that individual would likely have been known. Joining the dots would have been quicker. There would have been more opportunities to have stopped this before it happened.
