84 Confirmed dead after another apparent terrorism attack in Nice, France,

RIP to the dead and hopes for a full recovery to the injured. Respect to all families involved.

With that being said what makes this a condolences thread?? If we can't discuss why this has happened what's the point in a forum? Condolences are tacit - unless you are a sociopathic terrorist sympathiser.

RIP to all those dead and best wishes to those who are injured.

But yes as above, I can understand irrelevant comments to the thread but are we not allowed to discuss it? Which will of course bring up peoples different opinions.

No one is saying you can't discuss it, but I'd like to think we can discuss it without personal insults or baiting others.

Yes, and was staying very close to where it happened (heard gunshots etc), very lucky we didn't decide to go out.

If anyone is concerned about whether to come here on holiday, I would urge you not to overreact: it's something which could have happened in any number of cities in France and indeed Europe. It's a beautiful part of the world, and it would be a shame to miss out on it due to the actions of these people.

Good to hear you are a safe :)

As the day as worn on; the more upset I've become. I'm unsure why this particular atrocity has struck me more than any other. I’m in my 40’s. It is so absolutely abhorrent to me how awful humanity can be, or at least certain aspects of it. I have my wife and she has me. Utterly surprised how much empathy has poured out of me from this.

Sadly people will. I know two families that have cancelled their French summer holidays now "as better to be safe"

Part of me wonders why now. Did they decide on it because security was relaxed compared to the Euros? Did they originally plan for it during the football?

It's horrible how France keep getting pounded like this :(

Re-opened. Please continue discussion without insulting/baiting each other.

The rest of the mod team are still reviewing some posts and will be keeping an eye on the thread.

Ok i was tempted to close this thread and start a new.. From now on I want some respect shown in these early hours of this terrible atrocity.. This just isn't the time.

From now on anyone posting anything other than sympathy/condolences type posts from this point onward catches at least an infraction for lack of respect.

The mods are watching but please use the RTM system if need be.. Please don't give people the satisfaction by replying in thread.

As you say, while the French authorities/security services are breathing their first collective sigh of relief that nothing happened while the kicksportsball games were on..... what better time to do something?

RIP to all victims, this one in particular seems more horrific. Then again they all are.

If i was French i would be seriously questioning the governments priorities, as they have done pretty crap job of keeping their people safe. Since September 2014 (by and large) when the French government decided to declare war on ISIS the French people have bore the brunt of this decision. Is waging war worth more than the lives of your own civilians? Not to mention Frances leading role in Libya and the effects that has had on France and the continent as a whole or again recently in Mali where France again used its military to take part in another conflict.

Every action has a reaction / price, and it seems the price of French lives is worth the action for the French government.

FrenchTart, when you private messaged me telling me to have some respect, did you mean have some respect for the people who've been killed or do you want me to have some respect for Dis86?

It is very important for me to know this in order to avoid future infractions.

Questions like this should be posted in the Forum Content Discussion forum:

https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=164

I'll happily answer you there :)

Why not both?

Because to ask that I should have respect for the dead suggests I have shown some sort of disrespect to the people who have died.

Which is absolutely saddening to me I would never want to come across that way.

To ask that I have respect for Dis86 is another matter. A laughable matter, but a matter which is within my control nonetheless.

Likely because it's such an important day in France. It's basically a moment to recognise the founding of the republic as it is now. A day to truly hurt the nation. Something a home grown scumbag would know all about.

It's something celebrated by young, old, male, female. It has much broader meaning than a football tournament.

The Libyan thing spilled over into Mali and another country so there may be a load of people to add.

Ok, I didn't realise the importance of this particular day.

I see why they'd pick this, but surely if they're going for numbers or shock value then the final of a european football championship held in the capital, featuring the home team and televised to millions would have been a prime target too. A part of me almost expected it but I was pleasantly surprised when nothing happened.

Sad times :(
