1070 SLI very poor performance

It will be drivers. New tech new drivers. Will take a little while for SLI drivers to get updated and optimised.

One way to test is look at GPU utilisation in game. Should be running 99% preferably on each card.

I found putting the cards on prefer max performance or optimal power in 3D settings helped. And of course latest drivers etc.

hey guys

1070 in sli
5930k
1440p monitor with gsync

I just bought 2 1070 Asus strix cards

when i received i did a few benchmarks and compared to my 980ti benchmarks (i Had 6 980ti's and compared them all)

Now comparing the the 1070, my 980ti results demolished the 1070s every time by a big margin!

I have higher scores on 3d mark ultra and extreme on the 980ti.

So on Witcher 3 and GTAV i would get around 100fps on 1440p max settings with the 980ti sli

but with my 1070 sli i never go above 65 fps! terrible

Now I upgraded to 1070s because of the mass hype, online benches and people saying they would go to 1070 over the 980ti anytime

I double checked to see if sli was enabled and it is, with vsync off

So why am i getting such a poor performance with my 1070s sli?

Running 1070 solo and sli does not make a difference too !!

Is it crap optimisation? crap drivers ?

what am i missing here, have i done something wrong?

Ive got the latest drivers too, Basically the 1070s sli should be the same or beat the 980ti's in sli but at the moment it feels like a big downgrade, Im kind of wishing that i kept my 980ti's...

Why would you even bother upgrading from Ti's to 1070's?

You should have at least been waiting for big Pascal.

Pascal drivers need to mature too.

Weird sidegrade anyway.

+1

Something is certainly not working as it should. The 1070s in SLI will at the minimum match or near as damn it be a frame or 2 behind (depending on the model of 1070/980Ti).

Have you tested both cards individually?

Monitor the gpu usage in gpu-z/afterburner. If the cards (or one) is consistently downclocked, it could be GeoForce Experience knackering sli - my 1080's did this - one card not downclocking, the other not getting above 700ish mhz.
Uninstalled (not closed in sys tray) GFE and problem solved.

Wonder if someone can post Heaven Benchmark with SLI 1070's
or even with a single 1070.

I'm beginning to think my cards have problems, it's about as fast with one card as SLI

That's the problem sometimes with jumping on new hardware that is hardly an upgrade, especially when two 980Tis at 1440p 144Hz Gsync were more than adequate. Before we even get to getting 1070s, it boggles my mind you went from two Strix 980Ti's to two brand new Kingpin 980Ti's. Either way it's done now so telling you it was not the best decision 20 times won't help. As someone mentioned above it would probably just be best to return one 1070 and jump on the 1080Ti, the real Pascal beast, which should be out within the next year.

Yes think we need to get back to what might be the problem, rather than why did you buy them.

I have the same abysmal performance with 1070 SLI.

I bought them because I wanted to.

OMG if anyone remembers my previous thread 980ti sli vs 1070 sli

people literally said i made a mistake getting 980ti sli that i would be sitting on "yesterdays news" and it was a "daft purchase" ect ect

so I sent them back for the 1070s sli as its got more v ram and needs less power

also seeing 1070 sli benches it nearly always beats 980ti sli, so its not exactly a downgrade but its still a great card

i didn't get the 1080 sli because i thought its not worth an extra 500 quid for a 20% increase in fps

but the main reason is why a 1070 sli performs the same as a single 1070

Anyone with 1070 sli should be getting 100fps ish on 1440p im stuck on the 60 mark

Anybody who's had 6 980Ti deserves poor performance from 1070 SLI

what i meant was i had 3 different types of 980ti's over the past year, jumping from one type to the other, selling and re-buying

i like the experimenting with different types of the same card its so much fun

well to be honest a lot of people on these forums give advice without having a clue what they are talking about. Don't buy a 980Ti, that's old tech and bla bla, future bla, bad.

buy this, buy that. The fact is the 980 TI in SLI will be an amazing combo for years, regardless of Vulkan and DX 12 and DX 13 and Vulkan 1.b and what not.

Now, is there anything that can be done to get those SLI'd 1070 to perform at least as well as the previous cards?
