Reliable sources?

Well above average, but not Di Marzio level.

Im not so sure now ive read so much sense on here and elsewhere.

Think i would go with getting 3-4 top players rather than spending the lot on 1 midfielder.

Everytime i wear a united top i get some randomer mention mourino or the pogba deal.

It's not really a case of blowing the lot on 1 player, we can get him AND other players if we so wish. We want the absolute best player we can get for each position, and he seems to fit the bill.

The only positions I want us to strengthen is a striker and a CB to replace the aging BFG.

We have a midfielder, Xhaka who looks pretty physical but we definitely need a better striker and a CB. Not sure if Gabriel will be any good but until Wenger plays him more often then we won't ever know.

I can't see where else we need to strengthen, we do need to ship a few deadwood players out ie Walcott and Ox to name but a few.

I agree. Striker and CB. Xhaka looks like a solid disciplined holding midfielder although I'm not sure he's worth 30 mil, time will tell on that.

I just think this will be another rinse and repeat summer with another rinse and repeat season. Can anyone actually see Wenger breaking the bank for a striker and relegating Mert to the bench full time? I'm very pessimistic about it!

He's not actually confirming it, though, is he? He's just a journo who's reporting that's what he's heard. So it's a rumour from him, rather than being 'confirmed'?

If Raiola's told him that's what he's doing, then it could be classed as confirmation. Either way, looks like something is finally happening.

I have a funny feeling that AW will try and convert Chambers into a CB, even more-so with the amazing season Bellerin has had. I know he had that shaky game against Liverpool at the start of last season with Gabby alongside him but I think he could show promise if he learnt from BFG.

But yeah agreed rinse and repeat season. Heard a rumour Wellington Silva has been sold, another "player for the future" that I don't think has started an League game for us.

Chambers looked awful in every game I've seen him in. He is no way disciplined enough for a CB yet and doesn't have the pace the to play RB. Plus he gets a yellow card nearly every game. We don't have good enough players within the squad already. Akpom and Chambers starting regularly will just move us further down the table.

If he's been told that. And if it isn't just to flush out Real. The ifs make it hard to call it confirmation, imo.

Real Madrid seem to be on the verge of buying Andre Gomes as an alternative to Pogba.

I really hope this doesn't drag on either way, there seem to be expectations it could be done this week.

Di Mazio is just a glorified twitter ITK. He regularly claims deals are done and there no truth in it whatsoever.

Surprising, what I've seen of him lately, he seems to be fairly accurate, at least with our transfer news. I think he's more than a Twitter ITK, to be fair.

Unless we can get Dahoud then Wijnaldum and a LB looks like that will be us done for the window. CM and LB aside, I don't think our squad is too bad.

We showed last season we can compete with anybody on our day but we didn't score enough to pick up consistent results. Our lack of goals was a result of terrible luck with injuries to our front players (and not just Sturridge) - Ings missed nearly the entire season and also all of Coutinho, Firmino, Origi and Benteke missed more than their fair share of games through injury too - and a lack of options in the attacking midfield roles. Too often Allen, Henderson and Milner were having to fill in there because we had nobody else. Bringing in Mane and possible Wijnaldum gives us more options and hopefully goals, and touch wood we can't be as unlucky with injuries as last season.

Iinm, in terms of number of days missed through injury Liverpool players were the 2nd most injured last season.

edit: Yep, Newcastle had the highest, Liverpool 2nd and Utd 3rd. Leicester, unsuprisingly had the best injury record:

I've not been paying much attention to the dealings this summer, but am I right in thinking Liverpool have shown very little interest in anyone, and certainly not anyone of any quality? Despite finishing way way off the pace.

I'll believe all this Pogba stuff if he signs. Until then I don't think its going to happen despite all the rumours. Goetze is meant to be heading back to Dortmund this summer for something like 20m which is a good price for him. Bayern can always wait for him to run down his contract and buy him for a pittance if he comes good again.

It's hard to believe he's only just turned 24, it feels like he's been around forever.

Yep silva has been sold back to fluminese, never got a work permit or started a game for us let alone play a minute lol.

It'll sadly be the same again, Arsenal have made their biggest signing in Xhaka (which I'm excited for). However, having our striking abilities resting on Giroud is worrying, with Welbeck (who is no where near good enough anyway) out for the rest of this year, it leaves us with 12-14 goals max from our striker.
With the ability and creativity of our midfield, they should be on 20-25+ goals easily. Such a shame.

Basically the theory that players would want to play for Liverpool and Klopp (especially those that had played for him before) rather than a team in the Champions League wasn't really true.

Thats a shocker

.

Glad to see Arsenal fans finally seeing the real Welbeck - nice enough person / player, but really not that great in the long run

Prior to twitter he was nobody. He has no connection to Utd, he just reports what agents tell him and what agents want leaked isn't always the truth. I've lost count of the amount of bs he's reported over the last few years and just like all the clowns on twitter, no matter how many times he's wrong he's got this godlike status.

It depends on what you class as quality. If quality = £40m+ then no we've not signed anybody like that but from what I've heard, Karius is very highly regarded and Matip too is meant be a very decent CB. The likes of Mane and possibly Wijnaldum are far from bad players too and more importantly add things to the squad we need lack - pace and goals.

You talk about us finishing way off the pace but as I said, we showed in 1 off games we could compete with anybody - our problem was a lack of consistency which I believe was largely down to a lack of goalscorers. If we can improve the balance and depth of squad we should do far better without the need to sign Messi.
What happened to Gotze to Liverpool? I remember that being strongly rumoured before the summer.

Gotze wouldn't commit and we wouldn't wait for him to decide. I'm not just saying this because it's not happening but I'm genuinely not bothered by Gotze - that was the last position/role we needed filling. Mane is a much better fit for what we need - whether he's the right player remains to be seen but he's certainly the type of player we needed.

"hardworker" is great and all.....but not world class if that's what we are aiming for.
He needs to be at a mid table team.....Spurs/Liverpool or someone :D
