Which is why you never work under a car that's only supported by a jack, always use stands if you're going under it (even if just sticking a hand / foot under it)!

I want to get an SGS jack, generally only heard good things about them (above aside) and my Halfords one is getting rather rubbish now after 6 or so years...not to mention under a lowered car it's next to useless. I also want an SGS tool box...so shiny and cool. :cool: :D

E: and yesterday I bled my brakes, removed some foul sludge from one of my upgrade calipers (yay for second hand parts and no rebuilding them :p ) using a pressure bleed kit...so damn handy and today I've started to bed in the Yellowstuff pads. Shame the DS2500s I originally ordered were the wrong ones and the correct ones were twice the price of the Yellowstuffs.

When I say under the car. I was changing pads before going on track sitting on the floor with my feet underneath. It wasn't letting itself down fast by any means but still, a 900kg weight coming down wouldn't have been pretty either way!

I always use stands otherwise, it's not worth the risk.
 
Found the cause of a new clanging noise when I go over speed bumps!

Same, I managed to drop a car down onto its disc with one wheel off when I as a bit younger and (more) stupid - obviously wasnt under it, but it was a wake up call
 
I found the rubber pad that comes with the SGS jack a bit rubbish. It tends to bend easily exposing the metal jack pad frame.

Get a hockey puck for a few quid online. Much better and reduces the chance of damage. Some even cut a slot in them to fit in sills.
 
Changed all 4 discs and all pads on the S-Max. Was a pain as all the brake carrier bolts were insanely tight and it took some serious effort to get them undone. Think the old discs were about due a change though ;)

 
Finally found somewhere that can properly align a car. Been to two other places with Hunter equipment and it always came back with an off centre wheel.

STS Alignment in Bedford got it right first time (albeit more expensive than other places for a toe change).

Doesn't really matter if it's Hunter or something else, it's all down to how it's done and the effort the mechanic goes to on each small adjustment, and of course the state of your components, as seized nuts are common etc!

I get mine done at Pro Tyre, and they use Master Tech equipment.

I've got the 1.5 ton version which is pretty much identical except longer reach which I need.. Nice bit of kit, very stable when jacking up the entire front/rear of the car.. The only niggle is when getting it to creep down onto axle stands, the release valve is a bit sensitive!
 
Zafira back in again ref the EML, although getting somewhere now. Intake manifold to be removed, EGR channels and valve to all be cleaned (which was what I suggested it might be in the first place) :)

I bought one of those earlier this year to compliment my ageing Halfords jack.

Awesome lift and very sturdy. I've used the alloy 'racing' version before and didn't really rate it. Bit of a chore lugging it in and out of the boot though.

Absolutely! I've had a car fall off a jack before after removing the wheel. Not a nice experience when your hands are in the vicinity of the brake discs. I don't take any chances now and use axle stands, wheels and leave the jack in place... just in case.

Few things done on my daily EP3 today:

1. Both rear carriers stripped and regreased, perfect now.
2. Pre-cat O2 sensor swapped for a new one, no more eml now.
3. Idler pulley swapped for a new one, no more whine.

I have a Sealey jack that looks pretty much identical to this. Stupidly low entry, and it takes very few pumps to get the car up in the air. It's a superb bit of kit, even if I do struggle lifting it out of the garage :o
