any one have any recommendation on a kit to use at a reasonable price point (£30) ish?

even better if you have before and after pics :)

thanks in advance

Varying grades of wet dry paper and then mix some sealant with some meths and apply a few thin coats. Problem solved. Have a google of the Hellman Spar method, has more details. Sod the expensive kits ;)

Meguiar's Headlight Lens Correction might be a good place, no idea if it works but YouTube seems to think it does.

This.

Toothpaste never worked for me, but this worked fine. Done it a few times now, and it is easy enough. Although I do have a machine polisher for the final polish which does help a lot, but isn't required.

That said, you should try the toothpaste method first. It's not like toothpaste will ruin your lights or anything, it's just a very slight abrasive, like any kit will be too.

Have used the Meguiars one myself. Good results getting rid of stone chips in my headlight. First time wet sanding was a bit scary as it leaves awful sanding marks but it polishes away with the provided polish. It has increased my confidence more in wet sanding anything on a car.

I'm going to go down the 1500 grit, 2000 grit and Meguiars PlastX route when I do mine. I've read a number of posts about a good end result.

I'm just not sure what to seal with afterwards? Will normal car body wax (Collinite 476S) do the job? I know 3M do some decent UV protection products.

As said don't bother with a specific overpriced kit; all you're doing is refinishing plastic. Depending on how bad it is i'd just go straight for 2000 grit wet & dry, & follow up with a polish & wax of your choice.

This is my results from using wet and dry from coarse to fine and polishing after on e60 head lights.

That's impressive!

What grades/compound did you use? Did you seal them afterwards?

If I remember correctly I started with 600 then 800, 1200, 2000 and finished with either 2500 or 3000. I then polished it with Auto Finesse revitalise compounds. I did seal it with something, I can't remember what it was called but it was a pink liquid, I will see if I can find it tomorrow.

How long did it stay like that though?

I did it about a year ago and its still pretty good.

I would get a UV protectant, and top up with wax personally.
