No Man's Sky - Procedural space game

OK...without admitting to eating my words too early, I decided to give it ago.

I like it so far. Performance was an issue at the start...like low 30s fps..but a few changes here and there, and running the nvidia control panel thing, and i'm hitting 70fps all the time now.

It's certainly not like any other game i've played before. I just don't know what to do. 90 mins in...do i...dont i???!

I adjusted the FOV to 140 (i think, it's hard to tell) using the notepad edit i posted a few pages back.

I wonder if the initial poor perfomance has anything to do with the algorithms / calculations taking place? Surely not.

Just keep on exploring and chill :) that's the game they made, nothing more :)

I think since of the poor performance is that, as your machine calculates everything on the fly. Is quite impressive, especially as they got it working OK on a console

The game is too tedious. I mean the gun gets hot and runs out of juice too frequent. I'll admit I only gave it a hour run, but still 40 quid game it isn't. £10 and I'd have persevered. Will wait it out now and maybe re purchase another time, but for now ill go back to the plethora of games I have.

Quick question - I've left my starter planet but would like to return to finish exploring, how the hell do I find it again? The galaxy map doesn't seem to show visited planets and so on.

Upgrades to the mining tool soon sorts that out, but your right in its original form its definatly slow.

My planet while being quite hostile weather wise has a ton of valuable materials, just a shortage of zinc which ofc is the single thing im looking for to get my ship working.

As others have said im also too easily distracted by some random landmark and off i go deviating from my original purpose :)

WOW what a bad game. First time I had to use the steam refund option. Performance was fine but damn nothing felt right about it, it should cost £9.99 max.

I mean sorry if I sound negative but I've never been so wrong about a game that I purchased. It looked great in videos and screenshots and I love space games.

Just found a number of extremely large "Emeril" deposits on the aforementioned barren planet. Sold the materials for hundreds of thousands! Talk about good fortune.

Has anyone got to the part where it gives you 3 paths to choose from?

I'm zipping from planet to planet trying to find the resource to build my warp cells.....but thought it was meant to guide you somewhat?

Tip for anyone zipping about in space....shooting asteroids gives you the material to make the fuel for your engine that makes you go really fast (forget its name now)

Hmmm bit jerky on my setup :( FML. Is this game more GPU or CPU?

Supposedly vocal based games are more CPU intensive but will be interesting to see what Digital Foundry post over the next few days as I'm sure they are analysing it as we speak.

It looks like they built half the game, got it working then sold it to raise money to add the content in the game.

Just watched a mate streaming for 1h and he literally did the same thing for 1h fly to outpost, collect minerals or junk, talk to a robot. Shoot a drone, jet pack around and break his legs.

59.99 Euros ? hahahahaahahahah

Had Hello Games been more open and ran a beta or given the press less restricted access a lot of the negativity could have been avoided.

Unfortunately many people seem to have been expecting a game they made up in their heads rather than the one actually being made.

I do think they are taking the **** regarding the price on both platforms, if you are going to sell for AAA price it better have AAA polish, or at least work for the majority of your customers.

Really seems like a lack of testing, can you imagine what the PC version was like in June if this is what we have now...

TBH I've now had 3 hours on it, met 2 alien races and traveled to 2 different galaxies. If all he wants to do is jump around and break his legs so be it.

I can sort of see some people point in complaining about the price, but tbh compare the 'methods' in any game to it. COD? Press WASD and shoot generic enemies while taking part in QTE's. BF series? Just shoot other players repeatedly match after match. Far Cry series? Well the last 3 games have been climb things and capture outposts/carry out generic missions.

It really is what you make of it, but people saying it should have been £10 clearly haven't played any of the early access dross that is out there. Really trying not to be a fanboy but so far my experience has been great.

Since every is ranting and raving about how much of a mess it is, I'm half tempted to give it a go to find out if it's true or not - and if my 1080 will run it at more than 10fps :p
