No Man's Sky - Procedural space game

It is indeed :) will probably blast a few more hours on it again today then play a bit Deus Ex in time for the sequel coming out later in the month.

I'd ignore steam. It's like metacritic all over again. Trolls / fanbois having a go.

Why is it like Metacritic?

The game is dull and runs terribly on most machines. Price something that runs and plays like this at £40 then thats the reaction you'll get.

PS4 gameplay yes, not PC gameplay. And now we know why.

was going to buy this last night after looking in to it over the last few days.

Interesting to see this as i caught his stream last night fro a bit and all i can say is it saved me £40.With all the lagging issues and other problems.
but with this new take on it he has changed his tune a bit and the game itself looks a lot better. If they are working on it and patches come then it should improve. But i do feel for the guys who have it now and it dose not work major let down.

The biggest point to take from this review and others is sit back and wait and see what there first patch will do. Then make a dission to seeif they may get my money.

If you don't have a gsync monitor and have stuttering, try this, it seems they left hidden gsync setting to on as default:

Go to : C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\No Man's Sky\Binaries\SETTINGS or GOG\No Man's Sky\Binaries\SETTINGS

Then find the file "TKGRAPHICSSETTINGS.MXML" and open it.

You will then find the "GSync" option. It's "true" by default, change it to "false".

That won't do anything unless you actually have a gsync monitor.

On top of the game often having unplayable performance, combat is also terrible due to poorly thought out mechanics. Especially ship combat in an atmosphere. E.g the invisible wall stopping you flying low completely ruins it since NPCs can go as low as they like and you can't dive down to chase them. Then another bug presents itself because they won't chase you back up in to space again. So you end up stuck in combat until you restart the game, because the game won't simply let you boost/jump away.

Luckily Gog has a 30 day refund window. So I have time to see if they fix things with a patch, if not...refund.

It's a shame because the game is quite fun.

because half the negative comments are for less than 10 minutes play because the users cannot press E. The game was never stuck for them.

TBH I've now had 3 hours on it, met 2 alien races and traveled to 2 different galaxies. If all he wants to do is jump around and break his legs so be it.

I can sort of see some people point in complaining about the price, but tbh compare the 'methods' in any game to it. COD? Press WASD and shoot generic enemies while taking part in QTE's. BF series? Just shoot other players repeatedly match after match. Far Cry series? Well the last 3 games have been climb things and capture outposts/carry out generic missions.

It really is what you make of it, but people saying it should have been £10 clearly haven't played any of the early access dross that is out there. Really trying not to be a fanboy but so far my experience has been great.

Aye, it's my opinion too. Every game has repetitive features built in. I'd say it's unavoidable. For example, I've just finally completed FO4 and that has tons of repetitive go and defend/clear out/grab tech missions it's not funny. For me, it's also about the feel of the game and whether it grabs me, which NMS certainly has. Love the graphics which look amazing on an ultrawide monitor, the music is suitably chilled out and the sound fx are spot on. The feel is spot on for me and I can see myself sinking many hours into this game.

Few hours gameplay last night and was actually very fun. I thought it could do with a far better tutorial for the start as it took me a while to figure out where things were, crafting etc etc.

But all in all it felt good to just explore. Locate a few bases. Kill a few of these flying robots. Mine and discover new elements. Felt quite vast and lonely.

Not a single crash for me and generally running well. Few stutters here and there but that just seemed as the world was loading. Otherwise about 80-100fps most of the time which was good.

The only thing that left me a little under whelmed was the graphics. The world looks great and items, grass, rocks, trees look really quite beautiful within about 5-10 metres. Further back it starts to look a little muddled and far far back there is just the ground texture. No grass, shadows etc.

I'd prefer to look into the distance and think that looks good. I'll go there.

Similarly I was exploring a vast cave system. Half the rocks as I was running were rendering in front of me within a few metres which was annoying. They really need a render distance option as it really does feel like a ps4 port in that respect.

Into space on the first flight was very good and everything at a distance looked fantastic. Flight itself felt fluid, warping, boosters easy to use and looked good. I actually didn't go far though and flew to my planets moon which looked ace from a distance.

But similar render problems again. Asteroids popping into existence etc.

All in all it is a good game. I will be playing for the foreseeable future to explore, upgrade, gather etc and see what else there is. But there are a few things I don't like, like render distance, gun over heats etc. That really lets the game down I think.

Played a few hours last. After a few minutes of fiddling it's runniong fine for me.

There seems to be a problem using a controller, I can't assign somethings, eg, pulse boost (or whatever it's called) so need to press space. Also no popup keyboard when renaming. So, at the mo, the steam link isn't an option.

bought this game tried it, yes good game runs very good visuals are great though single player, no multiplayer, no building got a refund at under 2 hours use.

PS if it had at least building built in would have possibly kept it.

running a Fury x AMD, games runs fantastic @ 4k resolution set at 60hz on a 32" Samsung Monitor 4k

I suppose it's more Sony's doing than Hello Games but what were they thinking on that pricing good lord, it's an indie studio making an indie game.

The amount of people I've seen on the net posting that £40 is too much and even at £30 they'd be willing to give it a go is incredible. This game would have been an amazing success story at £25-30 and I suspect a many more would have bought it too.

Sony know however that you can pretty much ask what you like once the hype reaches a certain level.

Its definitely the price which is the biggest turn off for me. I'm not hugely into survival games but I do enjoy pottering about in them from time to time. The simple fact is that I can buy Ark and Subnautica together for less than the cost of No Mans Sky and whilst they may not have the scale of No Mans Sky, you could certainly argue that in terms of content and gameplay (as well obviously as the multiplayer aspect of Ark) they offer more value for your pound. I've watched many videos and streams over the past 24 hours and what I've seen just doesnt equate to the price tag imho.

I do think that if NMS had been priced more competitively against those two titles then I would have been much more tempted to part with my money.

Ive paid more for worse.
I feel you are right with Sony influencing the price though and probably would have been viewed much more favorably had the pricing been lower.
That said i dont feel done over by stumping up £40 preorder.
