The next Labour leader thread

It is not reasonable to want to escalate that situation when you have an 8 month pregnant woman next to you. What was wrong with asking someone else, who you would be more likely to get a yes from?

I didn't escalate it. I know I'm right and can live with it.

Question: Would you expect a heavily pregnant woman to move for you (I assume you aren't pregnant) to stand so you can sit? If the answer is no the discussion is over.

So ask someone for a seat, don't demand it. Simple courtesy.

I didn't demand it. Same question to you as above.

Well well well...

It was you wasn't it burnsy :p

Aren't there priority seats for pregnant and disabled people on most trains? A much better response would have been to seek out a seat marked for this very purpose and ask the occupant to vacate it (assuming not every priority seat on the train was occupied by a pregnant woman, elderly or disabled person of course).

No. You are thinking of something London midland and cross country trains do. The only seats designated as use is/were for disabled or elderly.

Its quite extraordinary on these boards that if we were having this conversation about a bus ride in the US there would be no disagreement on what I've said.

Virgin I hear do something but it wasn't operating. Equally what do you think would happen if my partner had been asked to vacate the seat by the ticket officer.

It's like all these busy so-and-so's who get all uppity when you use your phone in the Quiet Carriage. No mate - I've paid my rail fare the same as everyone else, and I'll damn well use my phone if I want to

I've already agreed with you about you're wife earlier, I said take care of her first. Short memory much?

What everyone but you seems to agree on is that your behaviour toward the innocent guy who just wanted the seat HE paid for and RESERVED. You ended up standing anyway so what's the difference?

He wanted an 8month pregnant woman to stand so he could sit... I gave up my seat the woman sat in it next to my partner. He stood,I stood.

Has this happened to you?

I get annoyed with kids playing their music out load but mainly because phone speakers are **** and a iphone 4s is no replacement for a 19080s ghetto blaster.

I have never seen anyone get uppity about this, i considered those signs outdated since everyone has and uses a phone no matter where they are on the trains ive been on.

I would expect them to ask. If they didn't, acted entitled and rude, then absolutely I'd ask them to move. They are pregnant, not on their deathbed.

If they did ask nicely then I would absolutely give them the seat.

Good old Batari's box.

Right then right then right is actually left! The irony as that's what you should have done!

What are you smoking?

Is it because you've realised I'm actually fair? Tell you what, if your gf is pregnant and someone tells her get up on a packed train and you didn't stand up for her, she could either have my seat or I would tell her stay where she was...

You'd be welcome :)

Your rail fare comes with terms and conditions, one of them is not to be an arse (well different phrasing but same sentiment). By not fulfilling those requirements you could be turfed off the train without a refund.

Well I was on that train and the next coach was empty. My friends dog agrees so its true and I paid my taxes last year..

Where is this ignore button - I don't think I can read anymore of this

Chivalry is dead they say... It is indeed.

As I said to some smoker above, if your pregnant mrs gets on a packed train and someone wont let her sit or demands she get out of her seat rudely I'll stick up for her and either give her my seat or stand up to the jerk with no conscience.

You too would be welcome :)

And I'll return the favour by escorting anyone off the train who acts as you do.

BTW, bravo, you're one of the better trolls here. I really took your bait hook, line and skinker.

My wife would never have that problem because I would have the presence of mind and intelligence to sort something out in advance without taking liberties at other peoples' expense ....

What can't you write girlfriend - this is not mumsnet.

Its in your head or your friends dogs pet flea has it.

Good job you weren't on the train else there'd clearly be two people who think they could get me move

Good luck with that sir *smiles knowingly and tips hat*

He has already admitted being wrong in the moon men thread this week, admittedly after being proved wrong over a few pages. You wont get another admission this week :D

I have no problem admitting when wrong as long as facts say so and I am satisfied. With this, I'm not wrong but the wanna be trollers are trolling.

Sure, but you don't have the intelligence to admit a heavily pregnant woman should not have to give up her seat... Odd that

I like to save time when laying the smackdown

Off topic: Makes me smile how the internet has evolved to a point now where anyone who dare voice a disagreement on a forum is immediately labelled a troll.

On topic: Next time get the bus m8 ;)

I know I need a new sig I think as its normally me called a troll. In fact I reckon in a poll it would be a close 1/2 between me and scorza, but then Evan has his moments.

It wasn't her seat. It was reserved by someone else. She should however have had a seat arranged for her but unfortunately her bloke was probably too busy trolling on her rather than giving a stuff about her welfare.
