What have you done to your car today?

Thing is, they're all bloody expensive so why not go for one that at least looks the part (as much as possible) strapped in? They don't look too out of place in any car with decent seats

The maxi cosi was great as it clipped straight into the pram but the group 1+ seats they do are pretty boring. Most of the Recaro baby seats seem to be rated highly like you say too

Bonnet bras - making your car look stupid during your ownership so the next owner can take it off and have a paint-chip less front end.

Correction.

"Making your car look stupid so it can gather all the grit, dirt, moisture and crap under it so when you drive around, it's effectively sanding your paint down".

Bonnet bras. Honestly. What next, wind deflectors?

Child seats should be picked on safety and nothing else!

WGAF what it looks like? Surely your child's safety is paramount?

We've got a Concord Reverso PLus as rear-facing seats are the safest. It takes up a ridiculous amount of space but it's great.

We picked up a 2nd hand BeSafe iZi Kid somethingorother for when the OH is in DK with the little 'un. The bloody thing even has its own airbag! £500 new mind

Safety is obviously a priority, but you're mostly comparing like for like in terms of rating and price so it's a bit of a leap of judgement to suggest otherwise.

I do think the newer rear facing for longer seats look good but we need to buy two of the things, wouldn't even fit in the fiesta and it's just not that feasible tbh - be good when they've been out a bit longer and are more reasonable

Yeah, the rear-facing ones take up silly space. The front passenger in the A6 has their knees on the dash :p
The back of the front seat is getting dented from passengers trying to move the seat back :(

Made a thread on Briskoda about the two noises the Sloda is making, and will be doing some preliminary diagnosis tomorrow, but this is what the car sometimes does when starting it up with AC on. :p

Are there any vcds tests you can run on the climate/aircon components? Bit like when you tell it to cycle the throttle body or similar

It does sound like the clutch mechanism has failed or another component that physically has to move

Is it a chain driven engine? 'Cos that's certainly what it sounds like. Fairly normal, loads of Audis are known for it.

No its belt driven, and the noises only happen when the AC is turned on, and then they both stop after a little while as seen in the videos. The AC still works fine though oddly. But (I think) only when it has stopped clicking. And I know some Audis have issues with chains, but if a timing chain is making noises like that, the engine is probably moments away from catastrophic failure. :D

Check alternator pulley.

Will check all that stuff when I come to actually change some bits and bobs, but I'm 90% sure the clicking is something to do with the compressor for the reasons stated above. :)

Makes another groaning noise too sometimes, when AC is turned on and the car is cold:

Haha my Octavia doesn't have the light. Yours must have a better trim level. :)

Also, got a video of the noise. The screech happens when you press the AC button even with the engine off. Does anything AC related besides the fan on the condenser turn on without the engine being on? Obviously the compressor is belt driven.

Then you can hear the clicks after turning the car on, sometimes its worse than this. Think that may be the compressor pulley bearings and/or compressor clutch.

The rattle you hear after the clicking stops (aside from the normal engine rattle) is the tensioner. :)

After sitting all night in the 'cold':

And again after sitting for 8 hours in the warm multi-storey, slightly different/shorter squeal this time, and minimal/no clicking after starting:

Probably a knackered clutch in the AC compressor, or a knackered pulley / bearing, get it looked at by someone that knows what they are doing with AC systems.

Alternator pulleys seize up and cause sounds like that. The extra strain on the belt from the A/C coming in will make it a lot worse.

Not saying it's definitely that, but a good place to start as it's a common fault.

Hmm OK, worth noting also that my tensioner is knackered and I'm replacing it at the same time as all this, unsure if that could be a contributing factor

I'm already doing the aux belt and tensioner, so I may as well do the AC compressor pulley and clutch at the same time, and have a look at the alternator pulley.
