PlayStation 4 Pro in-bound

I am a bit concerned about how much extra the pro will get. Beyond Tomb Raider I am not seeing much information about what great stuff other games will get rather than what they might get.

Seems like an unknown quantity at the moment. I don't think Sony is doing a good job marketing the pro.

You've never fitted a faster graphics card to your pc and overclocked the CPU then?

Basically means you can move the graphics setting sliders further to the right.

Same as what devs will do.Every graphics engine on the market is scalable in this way.

Depends on how much of a bump I guess. I am happy with how PS4 games look now. To essentially buy the console again for £350. I'm just not sure if I need it nor want it.

Yesterday actually, upgraded to a 1070 :). Done it before though of course.

I get the concept of the PS4 pro, just not seeing much information about the games which will utilise the extra power.

Isn't it down to the devs whether or not they impliment PS4 pro features?

Also, what about the multiplayer side of things? I heard that you won't be able to select an option such as 60fps game play if the slim / standard is getting 30fps. Will devs look for ways around this? I.e. by using unlocked framerates?

Will there be a clear advantage to owning a pro for PSVR?

I agree with Plainsong, I am playing through UC4 at the moment, the graphics are pretty amazing. Certainly good enough for me. I cannot see my self rushing out to drop 350 on the pro, I was convinced at the announcement that I would pick one up at launch but at the moment I am not seeing anything amazing which is really making me want the pro.

Simple answer : wait and see. It's *totally* down to the individual developer what options they provide on the Pro version.

Got my bday a few weeks after the launch, so I've got time to check it out before I decide to treat myself. Mainly interested in how it improves Destiny.

I think I might get the pro. I sold my ps4 last year to help fund my new pc build from scratch, but after spending over 2 grand it's fair to say I'm a little disappointed, the games that do work maxed out and mods are great but what really annoys me is the amount of unoptimised games like Arkham knight and pes 2017 etc. Obviously the console market is where the big bucks are so they take priority for the developers. Think I persuaded the misses to get me one for Xmas :) so I'll get that for the exclusives (still haven't played uncharted 4 yet!) and use pc for the rest

Did the exact same two years ago and feel exactly the same as you. My main gripe with PC gaming is the lack of optimization and hackers.

Except they won't. As already mentioned The Witcher 3 for example won't get any enhancements. Currently you would be buying a PS4Pro in the hope that the games you like get some improvement. So close to release I would expect a few more details about just what it is you are buying.

Best to buy it for future developed games not for the backlog. I am treating this like a new console even though it not, hence why I am buying it on release and not waiting.

I think the law of diminishing returns applies so well to pc gaming. If I put my pc and console side by side there would be a difference but not over £1500 worth imo lol the strange thing is I've noticed I enjoy the hardware side of things more than actually playing the games  I've probably spent more time messing about and chopping and changing configurations, then altering settings in games rather than enjoying the games I built it for lol

You are my digital doppelganger :D

I think a lot of us here are guilty of that! :)

I'm also trying to decide whether to splash out £350+ on a 1070 to upgrade my PC or just get a PS4 Pro as I feel that console gaming is way more popular so online games tend to be better and a lot of developers seem to target console games before the PC version.

I would go for the 1070 but because I have a Freesync monitor it would cost me double to move to the Nvidia side. Actually it would be the price of a PS4 Pro and PS VR.

Lol while playing games I bet like me you end up mostly staring into the top left corner of the screen at the rivatuner statistics; temps, fps, usage etc lol

I used to constantly, more concerned about FPS than the actual game. I gave up on PC gaming a few months ago and went all out console. I've not missed it to be honest.

i gave up too, pc hardware getting too expensive (£400 just for a gfx card...) and i'm spending more and more time in recent years editing .ini files and doing other fixes to get games to work than i do playing them :(

games might not look as sharp on console but at least i can play them :)

That's one of the annoying downsides is the messing about. I miss the just pick up and play side, you know with console it's just going to work 99% of the time. I had a txt from misses this morning saying the headphones aren't working and I don't want her messing around with PC so later on I'll have to sort that out lol

Something is very wrong if you are literally spending more time getting games to work than playing them. I heard this complaint here and there and I'm baffled as to how this happens.

I can understand if you're trying to install a bunch of mods or something, or if you're trying to run old games meant for DOS or whatever - then yea, things can get messed up and create headaches - but just normal games? You'd have to be unluckiest person on earth to constantly play games that dont work properly.

I honestly cant remember the last time I had to do anything to get a game to work properly(non-modded).

Another complaint I see is people saying they spend more time tweaking settings than playing games. That's a very weird one to me. Again, I have no idea how this happens or how one gets SO obsessed over minor little things that they literally spend less time playing than they do messing with settings. I honestly feel bad for folks that are afflicted with such a psychological hangup.

99% of games work for me on PC just fine.

It's just as 'pick up and play' as console gaming has ever been for me. Maybe even moreso since I'm regularly having to download patches on my PS4 that take much longer than they would on PC.
