The "New Gear/Willy Waving" thread

Got something which doesn't let light through! :p

Well my plan for the 5D3 to fall in price backfired. Price is rising due to the poor £ :( It's gone up £100 this week alone on *******.

Might just have to bite the bullet.

I've been looking at a new Nikon D500 on ebay which seems to be a 'grey' import, what's the deal with these in respect of UK warranties etc?

Johnny try Hdewcameras I got my 7dii from there. They provide their own 3 year warranty with a Canon certified repair shop. Give them a call regarding nikon.

My 23mm f/2 just arrived, let me know if there's any tests you'd like me to do on it :D

I got this a while ago and it's been performing fantastically, Lexar Professional Workflow 6TB SSD over thunderbolt, each drive is removable and has a little case, I also have off shot an SD/CF/MicroSD/USB3 bays in a separate enclosure. my work flow for it is I keep a month of photos on each drive and then remove it if I need to edit on the road and put it back into the slot when done, catalog is synced via iCloud and is persistent across my 4 Macs.

Urgh. I need a Canon 24-70 II at some point, March at the latest.

Prices appear to be starting to creep up and I'm concerned they'll only get higher with the weak pound. Question is do I wait in the hope that it'll feature in a cashback promotion before March (or even a double-cashback promotion at the Photography Show) or buy now before the prices go up even more.

I'd buy now, the pound is predicted to continue to get hammered in the short to medium term. I am in the same boat, I want a 5D3 and 24-70. My dithering last week will have costed me £200 across both as the pound fell.

Took delivery of the Canon 100mm 2.8 macro yesterday, can't wait to get out and try it.

I have the L and am considering selling it as I just don't use it. Had fun with it to start with I think I scratched the macro itch and didn't really feel it was my thing. Still in two minds as I'm only likely to get around £450 for it.

Might dither a little longer as prices seem to have risen already. Already have my 5D3 thankfully (although the 6D may well go next year). I sold my 24-70 Mk1 back in February with the intention of getting the Mk2 but then my life went to **** so now I'm without a walkabout. Have a wedding to do in March so need one by then at the latest.

Canon 5DMk3 + 24-70mm you say?

Take a look at Canons offer where you can match a body to any lens and get a cashback.

http://www.canon.co.uk/lens-promo/?WT.mc_id=web_display:cuk:lens-promo:banner-promopage:link

As long as you buy from Canon Authorised stores (high street or internet) you can get the cashbacks

You can check which stores are authorised at

http://www.canon.co.uk/where_to_buy/for_home/

The above is in addition to the normal quarterly cashback which can be found at

http://www.canon.co.uk/cashback/lens-cashback/

TBH for the lens only cashback the range of lenses isn't as great as previous years.

I suppose a little canny wheeling and dealing, seeing if the authorised retailers will price match (certainly John Lewis do with any store that has a visible high street presence, plus you get a 2 year warranty included) and then after getting that price match ordering the items and then applying for the camera+lens reward, you might end up with a reasonable discount.

Expect prices to go one way only though (and they will get worse)

Thanks, yeah I don't the prices doing anything but going up a fair bit for the next 2 years. I will pull the trigger this weekend. I was looking at either a 5D3 or 7D2 but it has been suggested to me to try an 80D. The crop would allow me to stick with my lens line up as it is, but I have to say I'm still thinking of going FF.

I had a 7D and then bought a 5D3 with the intention of having the flexibility of both FF and crop. The 7D was barely used thereafter so I flogged it and got a 6D to partner the 5D3.

I'd go FF unless you absolutely need the additional reach that the crop provides.

Not so far, I have a 1.4tc which I very very rarely use on the crop. Might use it more on a FF. Football I use the most range but very rarely 200mm on the crop. Will look through LR and see what most are roughly.
