Google Pixel and Pixel XL

Since when does the price of something like a phone purely come from the sum of its hardware. You have development and advertising to pay for, ongoing services such as the unlimited storage. I totally understand these prices, i work in an industry where the hardware typically counts for less than 5% of the end price.

Walking along Tennison Way outside Waterloo Station last night towards the Imax and Waterloo Bridge, on the way to the theatre, I was struck by the huge number of billboards and LED screens advertising the Pixel phones. It is as if Google has taken every possible ad location on that road! Even the IMAX wall is a Pixel ad, the biggest ad I have seen in a long time.

The ad spend on the Pixel in London is epic. Must surely rival anything Apple has done.

The four big screens at Old Street roundabout are also showing Pixel ads, but the main ad placement inside the station is all iPhone 7. Google needs to sort it out!

If it had an Apple on it, people wouldn't say it was overpriced and I honestly don't think the public see it as overpriced anyway.

I've ordered one and I hope it will be good to use. It's essentially the iPhone of Android which we've been asking for for years and I am happy to pay the money for that.

It will be a good, quick phone, of that I have no doubt. The problem I have with the price is that it's lacking some key features that its too main rivals either both boast, such as splash resistance, or in the case of the Galaxy S7/E, wireless charging.

That and the terribly inefficient size-to-screen ratio. At least the iPhone has a trademark button at the bottom, and whether you consider that good or bad, at least the chin has functionality.

I've always said I'd be happy to pay more for a stock Android phone if that's what it takes, so I've no problem with the approach or price in that sense, just that for what the phone actually is it's hard to justify the price it comes in at.

We were spoiled by the Nexus range in the last few years, and the 6P for example should have cost more than it did for what it offered, but this barely improves on it, and indeed it loses out in a couple of areas.

Does anyone know if the Xiaomi Mi5s has the same camera as the pixel?

Sadly it will be the software that separates them, as from what we've seen the Pixel's processing, and particularly video stabilisation, is something else. Xiaomi won't be able to match that, irrespective of the sensor, but it should certainly be a solid camera if it uses the same sensor. :)

What do they need to "sort out,"?
Apples paid for that advertising spot therefore Google can't use it.

I believe 20th is the official date - I went to the UK 'Google Experience store' in London - they really need to sort that out, it's not much of an experience. The guy there was friendly enough, but the fact they don't have their first flagship device on display, and won't, until it's day of release, isn't exactly building the hype.

remember that this is the first Pixel phone, and the first phone ever made by Google. Comparing it how other phones from other providers has been i feel right now is a silly thing to do. Google know how important it is to get their phones to the latest version of android with updates being super quick. I very much doubt they've signed an exclusivity deal with EE and had in there that EE can take as long as they want to send out updates.

Noticed quite a few Pixel ads on the London underground, and it contrasts against the iPhone 7 ads. I like how Google is using a white background vs Apple using black :p.

I've always said the iPhone is overpriced for the actual tech you get with it.

Yes, and if you don't want to pay for the companies advertising, development of a device that has barely changed in years, buy a decently priced phone that is more about what tech you get in it.
