Google Pixel and Pixel XL

Seriously... It is NOT made by Google. It's made by HTC. It's no different to any previous Nexus phone except Google have added a few bits to the software Nexus phones won't get.

Oh and it costs a ****load more.

It is designed by Google, they chose all the components and HTC manufactured it. No different to Apple using Foxconn to manufacture.

This is very different to the Nexus phones; it is Google through and through.

I personally feel like this Pixel launch has been and will be a disaster. Something Google will fix next year. Either by bringing back a two tiered lineup like they did with the Nexus or something else, but something thing about this launch stinks.

I still find the link you sent and the comments by EE hard to believe about updates on Pixel.

The other day Google talked to Ars Technica in US and specifically said:
"OS updates and monthly security patches will be updated on all Pixel devices (Verizon and non-Verizon versions) simultaneously."

They addressed the following about Verizon in the US (and I am sure the same applies to any exclusive operator in any country) as follows: ""First and foremost, all operating system and security updates to the Pixel devices will happen in partnership with Google. In other words, when Google releases an update, Verizon phones will receive the same update at the same time (much like iOS updates). Verizon will not stand in the way of any major updates and users will get all updates at the same time as Google.

Also, the Verizon version of the Google Pixel is carrier unlocked, so you can use it where ever you like. Finally, we have three apps pre-installed on the phone Go90, My Verizon (which is your account management tool) and Verizon Messages (your messaging app). As you noted, all three can easily be uninstalled by the user."

What say you?

Last week, I mentioned that it might be a good idea for Google to accelerate launch of the Pixel in advance of the scheduled 20 October launch date. Well, it appears that by accident, Telstra in Australia has already done that and comments and unboxings are starting to appear. And no Telstra (exclusive operator) bloatware.

Here is a Reddit link from someone who has received his Pixel phone and wanted to share:
