So this whole clown craze...

Stupid.

This whole vigilante mentality will only cause more trouble. Idiots will get the idea of being a hero in their head and eventually there will be an altercation where both parties feel they are defending themselves for their life. You will even get older kids who are out on a prank, get wailed upon by some rowdy drunks coming home from the pub because they fancy themselves 'ard and see this as an excuse to prove it.

Not liking how the Police crime commissioner ignores the actual crime of common assault which has taken place, yet threatens clowns with public order offences - which I doubt would stick.

It is not *yet* an offence to be an idiot, otherwise there would be a need for a LOT more prisons!

If people are stupid enough to still go out and do it knowing there are groups of people looking for them then maybe a bit of a pasting will do them some good.

Clown bashing does sound like a good weekend tbh. A good ol' punch up is good for the soul every now and again.

But where do you draw the line in what deserves punishment. Does a teenager out for a scare deserve taking a beating. Taking a good knock from a startled or riled up grown man can be dangerous. It could just as easily be the vigilante on the receiving end.

this clown craze wont last long, police was gathered up the road from me, someone had done a hit and run on one of these killer clowns. wont be long until clowns are turning up dead.

I just had of a bit of a moment when reading this as the surreal absurdity of the situation sunk in a bit. The very fact that there's a context where the phrase "won't be long until clowns are turning up dead" is perfectly legitimate tickles me greatly

That's a bit like asking if someone poking a lion in the face deserves to have their arm bitten off... Maybe "deserve" isn't quite the right word, but no one's going to be surprised if it happens, and they sure as hell won't be doing it again in a hurry!

But why do people have to resort to violence? Isnt that saying more about the person dishing out the beating just because they got a "scare" than the clown person deserved it?

Last time i looked it wasn't a legal defence to physically assault somebody just cause they are an idiot otherwise 100s of people would be doing it every day.

If you believed they were a threat it is.

If you really want to test someone's fight or flight response you can't really moan if they decide to stand and bang rather than run off. It's not just people dressed as clowns, if people get any kind of scare they'll either lash out at it or leg it. Like the video where that dude pops up from a wheely bin and gets a smack in the mouth after a lot of other people just moved away. It's the chance the 'clowns' take I guess? But they seriously can't moan having put themselves in the situation to begin with.

I agree. Providing your not jumping up and down of a floored clown, punching someone in defence may be a perfectly reasonable thing to do if you're being assaulted (I.e. Feel the threat of immediate violence).
