What have you done to your car today?

Got the Alto back, feeling good :)

Super nuts noise, feels great but isn't that quick of course, hah

Anyways, lots to do this weekend, BOV not working right and a lot of cleaning to do but the brunt of the work done. Speedo converter not fitted as the gearbox plug is a pain to get to... I might try tomorrow. Paintwork done, looking much better than it was.

broke it.. brake fluid all over the ground!

checked the brake nipple that wouldn't move, looked a bit crooked/sideways.. - this was a replacement caliper, all others are original so must've been changed by previous owner/mechanic.

left it as is until I have my date booked with mechanic, was parking the car and could hear something woozing under the car when the brake is pressed and pedal went to the floor.. open the door, bam puddle of brake fluid under the rear right wheel! awesome.

the nipple literally popped out and started squirting the fluid all over.. brakes gone, clutch gone.

nipple is totally cross-threaded, I'd say 2 threads are still healthy the rest are gone, caliper is cross threaded too.. ! how dangerous could that have been if it happen in emergency.. what monkeys work on cars I have no idea but I'm peeved beyond belief.

ordered new caliper, £50(hey mazda, thanks for being cheap)

can't do anything with the hole so it is still dripping on a cloth.. car is undrivable now for obvious reasons until new caliper is in and I can bleed the brakes...

used up the opportunity to check all other calipers and all un-do fine.

Kinda glad it happened when parking, annoyed that monkeys managed to mess it up so bad. Guess the fact that I tried to undo it actually killed it(mind you it did not move)

EH.

Whilst that's crap, you're right in that it could have been worse. Glad you weren't hurt at all as a result.

Sympathies to your wallet though although as you say...cheap!

Drove it, 120 miles from Falkirk to Carlisle, stopped off for food then did 330 miles non-stop from Carlisle to Portsmouth. Think I have a suspension part or a wheel bearing going though as there's a slight vibration when gently braking from lower speeds, plus the steering wheel is wobbling ever so slightly at higher speeds. Not really got a clue what it could be to be honest but it's not a constant vibration and it does it less as the car is slowing down.

Need to investigate that today/tomorrow as I'm back off up to Durham tomorrow. The fun never stops.

Fitted new speakers all round in my EP3 as the standard ones were terrible. Nightmare, brittle old plastic mounts for the door card clips, most are no longer attached to the door card :D So I got annoyed and bodged it as best I could with the time I had. Snapped the clip on the mirror cover mount too on one side where I mounted the tweeters for the front components so a healthy dose of gaffa tape is holding that on until I find my glue gun! It'll do for now. Sounds much better.

Definitely feel like I'm past the point of wanting to mess with older motors so I think this will be my last one then next car will be as new as possible with the best spec so no need to fit things like HID's, audio upgrades and the like.

Still it's good fun to get stuck in, but annoying when things break in the process :D

Noticed one of the tyres on the Zafira looked a bit flat yesterday so pumped it up. Got up this morning and completely flat.

Just fitted the space saver and ordered 2 more efficientgrip performance. Was planning on replacing the 2 fronts anyway, but seems a nail has accelerated this :)

I thoroughly hate driving up and down the m4/5/6 with Birmingham a particular without fail low point

Aye it kills me too.

Just to make things even worse, thanks to the trains being screwed yesterday I had to drive another 340 miles up to Durham (with the joys of the M42 this time), get about 3 hours sleep, work all day then drive 340 miles back home. 1700 miles in the last 7 days with full on days of work every single day. Feeling somewhat ruined now.

Why yes. Yes it would.

Quote in. Drumroll... £2.4k (inc VAT). - Including new door and sill (talking to the guy he was definitely sure about the door and was going to give the sill some thought). Getting tempting to let the insurance handle this one.

I hasten to add - that is using new parts in a Honda approved body shop. Cheaper options will be available.

The insurance company concur. They estimated the repair today at £2.2k (ex VAT) and the value of the car at £5.6k. So repair authorised and I can use my preferred body shop (i.e. the Honda approved one) if I want to.

Thing after thing!

My front numberplate has fallen off, so if anyone in Portsmouth comes across it, do be a dear and let me know :p

Gotta nip into Snows later to get a new one printed. Seems the sticky fixer strips have weakened over time. Won't be using Halfords strips again.

Velcro coins - easy to remove / clean and been on my car for years now.
