What film did you watch last night?

Superhero films and truly awful story lines go hand in hand though. It's the first thing I expect. I can only think of a few that aren't terrible.

On superhero films, I'd say zero classics films, as a fan of comics as a medium it's a genuine concern.
I just watched x men appocolypse, it i s dire, from the misjudgements of the over saturated overly clean ejyption opening to the wasted quicksilver scene through to the end. 5\10

Every track on there is just pure awesomeness. Even 9 and a half minutes of All Around the World. :p

Batman Trilogy. Well, mostly the first two films. Dark Knight Rises was a bit boring.

The first Iron Man.

Deadpool.

I'll admit I enjoyed the first Avengers, but even the story line in that is the rather generic, save the world stuff we see time and time again.

I've not really read many superhero comics, not since I was younger anyway, but I've heard the same thing from people that do. The studios just seem to pump them out without putting any real care or effort into them. Simply a money maker and that's it.

For me the x men alagory fails to hit home without the full marvel back story.

Cloud Atlas. Liked it a lot.

Superhero films... Spider-Man 2 is really good. The first two X Men films hold up pretty well. Tim Burton's Batman films are pretty good, but a bit on the Tim Burton side, Nolan's Batman films are all great, though they decline in quality as they go. Richard Donner's Superman films are good if you can put up with the 70s production. Deadpool was good in an irreverent "adult" way. Iron Man is excellent. Winter Soldier is good.

Oh, and Big Hero 6 is brilliant.

London Has Fallen

Wasn't very good. A bit too far fetched so it didn't suspend my disbelief. Ropey effects too.

4/10

Sleepless in Seattle. I've not seen it before, I had a pile of ironing to do, and I needed something inoffensive in the event the kids wandered in. It was ok. Hanks is deprndable. It was funny in places. It's not When Harry Met Sally, but what is?

Next time you can put on You've got Mail :)

Again with Hanks and Ryan, I preferred it to SiS, but it's of the same ilk

Nocturnal Animals (2016) - 8/10

I really enjoyed it - two relatively simple, but very well told gripping and interesting stories intertwining fiction with reality in a very artistic but bleak setting.

Emotional and very powerful acting from the leads, and the art really stands out in its beauty, bleakness, and emotional impact.

Not as shocking or thought provoking as it could have been, and the ending could have had more closure.

Under The Skin (2013)

Not what I expected at all, a slow burning thriller, certainly makes you feel uncomfortable at times. If you like dark, indy, art-house films - it will tick all the boxes.

Scarlett Johansson is very good at playing the part, the trouble is - I cannot elaborate without spoiling - It's one of those films that I enjoyed but would I watch again?

Not sure - Still, worthy of 8/10.

4 stars for each of the stars of the film?

The Accountant 9/10 - Probably one of Ben Aflecks best performance. Everything I expected and more. Thoroughly enjoyed it despite the plot being a bit predictable. This is what Agent47 should have been.

Very unexpected Jason Borne like. Hope they make another.

Completely agree with Kyo. Another 9/10 from me also.
Went last night to watch it, really good film, better than expected. Much better as a film, than Jason Bourne (last one) and Jack Reacher.
Might have less action, but is more complete package.

The Accountant - 6/10 - Affleck is very good in this but it's a very strange mish-mash of a film with some very convoluted story lines as it tries to be part Rain Man, Mob movie, Jason Bourne, romantic comedy and family story all at the same time which may sound bad but it actually works for the most part (really liked the scenes with his Dad). However the lack of time given to each "segment" and the last two "twists" (see spoiler) at the end were a bit a let down. Plus John Lithgows part was a bit difficult to believe (see spoiler), Anna Kendrick's part was "odd" and it felt like she could have been used more.

Twists - The two twists at the end were just unbelievable, especially the "Voice on the Phone". Also after realising that it's his brother in the big house fight they just walk away from each other saying "meet in a week" - they're together right now, why not leave the house together???

Voice on the Phone - I guessed it was an automated voice from the "huge sigh" comment but this "twist" really come out of nowhere and the film felt weaker for including it. I mean, how did she learn to be a master hacker, how did she and Affleck stay in touch while he was being moved around so much as a kid etc. It just made no sense.

Lithgow - How does a Robotics company director know how to hire mercenaries? How does he know how to launder money back to his own company?

Dr strange, enjoyed A Dali wet dream as empire described the visuals.
A different direction for MCU films, whilst retaining the necessary links and a degree of humor, which contrasts from the weak po faced xmen Apocalypse.

That said a good but not classic film. 7.5/10

Suicide Squad. 6/10 I'm late to the party with this and enjoyed it more than expected. The Joker and Harley Quinn were both very good and totally stole the show for me. The rest was average. Had the movie focused more on their relationship with the rest as a backdrop it could have very good.
