Don't want to ruin your fun, but they do a lot of work on the soundtracks of these things. Stashing a sound man with a boom mike in the right spot might be tricky. :)

But despite knowing that I still felt the same way about the crunch. It's very skilled work all round to bring such a complete experience together. I only turned over for a few seconds while doing something else and ended up watching it all.

Just re-watched a bit I thought I misheard the first time - He did say that the "giant otters" were man-sized so checked and they grow to 5ft 6in, HOLY ****

I hope there is a bluray boxset with more in depth behind the scenes about the production of this series. I never bought the first one after seeing it in pre HDTV so I don't know if I missed out on that one.

I always wonder how much is actually "fake" sounds and how much is actually directional Mike use. You don't need a boom man a few feet away to get sound with a decent directional mic.

One or two negatives. Please stop with the multiple lens flares and silly cartoon sound effects.

Love Sunday nights for the expert sofa critics to emerge...

You are talking nonsense.. And have no idea what you are on about.

The sound design is what makes this show...

Next people will be saying " I'm amazed they film it in that order":p

Haha ! That capybaras reaction was like.. wtf.

Mate...it's all editing...you don't think for one minute they would be watching it like a spectator?

Please keep commenting on your lack of knowledge on how TV of this quality is made :D

Oh here comes the resident forum know-it-all. Why are you always trying to derail threads with your confrontational way of posting? You're the same person who was having digs at the eagle cam last week and calling for "reality". One rule for you, one for the rest.

I'm talking about the silly sound effects when a lizard sticks its tongue out. I'm talking about the munching sound that was there when the railroad worm supposedly ate the centipede. I don't think it adds anything.

Interesting that you left out the "Wow. That was amazing." part of my post out.

I agree with the sound effects. There was one point where a lizard blinked and we were treated to a parody soundbite.

But the rain forest scene with the rainfall was really good. Totally post-produced but I enjoyed it.

The paraglider scene is a different kettle of fish. It's not like the sound engineers had to hire a helicopter to fly to the top of the mountain and sail down it to get some sound effects. Their effects augment the visuals. The glider gave us nothing but a mountain.

erm, sorry? I don't know if the second part of your post was directed at me or not, but I've not once pretended to be knowledgeable about how this show is made? I'm simply making a comment on a picture which was posted in this thread

The way the show is edited we can see that the storytelling is a huge part of Planet Earths charm.

They give the animals personality. The sound reinforces this.

Its so well done in fact that some people here think that the capybaras where actually spectating...

Really amazing stuff, it's crazy how much time they devote into making the show so good.

It's amazing how much time some posters on here spent arguing about little things. :D

Absolutely amazing show and who gives monkeys if they sometimes over do it on effects.
