Apart from Saturday night, last night and a bit of rain today we've escaped most of it in Kent, I was expecting a wet commute this morning but it was only damp, and it's now blue sky so should be a dry commute home.

The last time the weather was this bad and I ended up riding down the A449 behind a wall of water I stopped for a chat with a guy on a Vespa that had just done the same thing.

Still the only scootay rider I nod to because it was touch and go for me so I can't imagine what it was like on one of those little things!

As a youngster I rode over Holland's "Afsluitdijk" numerous times on a Puch NRG 50. At times I was literally riding at 45deg and hoping not to get blown away. Exciting is an understatement. I think if I did it again today the word I'd use is "terrifying" but I was yound & dumb and there was a hot and horny Dutch farmer girl at the other end so needs must and all that.

Still miss that thing, some of my fondest memories are from it. It started off as a restricted 50 that I bought second hand. 30mph max. By the time I got shot of it it did 100mph (on a good day) and had enough spent on it to probably finish my whole licence, buy a bike, and the same again with a car :D

Emailed SBS this morning as the pinlock on my Schuberth just isn't sealing correctly due to the pressure put on the pins popping them out just enough to lose tension and break the seal.

Apparently the guy replying to me suffers with the same problem and it's quite common from what he's said.

The fixes he gave me were

1. Rotate the posts to their outermost position, flex the visor outwards and install the pinlock insert.
Or;
2. Carefully file the notches of the pinlock insert so there is a little more room for the posts.

I've already done number 1 and the pins are too loose in the visor holes to hold the tension and 2 seems like a pretty rubbish workaround for what is the most expensive non race rep helmet on the market pretty much but due to its design it's impossible to ride with the visor cracked open enough to keep it clear as the air comes straight into my eyes reducing me to looking through tears pretty quickly when it's cold enough to need the pinlock.

They've said I can send it back for inspection but as it sounds like a common issue that seems pretty pointless  so at the minute I've had to go back to my old Shark S900C.

Not overly happy.

I'm considering a dab of superglue on the pins, but then I imagine if it still doesn't work I'll then have no recourse if I send it back.

You can normally rotate the pins between their outermost and innermost position to get the tension right, the posts are elliptical.

The only issue I have on my Arai with the max vision pinlock is a slight bit of fogging up (less than a cm deep and 2cm wide) right where my nose is, and only on really cold mornings (2-3 degrees or less).

Go with a Shoei, Japanese quality. :)

I do love my Shoei. Super comfy and light.

I can't see getting them to refund or exchange a 3 month old helmet for a pinlock sealing issue being easy to be honest :(
I can see it being an infinite backwards and forwards of them finding nothing wrong with it.

Saying that they may well have shot themselves in the foot by admitting it's a common issue whether it's recognised by Schuberth or not.

Like I said I've twiddled the posts every which way, which actually may be the issue.
It seems like the visor plastic is a bit "soft" for want of a better word and removing and reinserting the pins stretches the holes just enough that the pins will still click back in but pop out of the visor once the pinlock pushes against them.

I'm not that bothered, its just not logical going through all the hassle selling the bike, buying another one going through insurance etc.

I know someone who changes bike more often than you, but he makes profit on them. :p

It's also not logical buying a bike and immediately spending money to change the bars before i even ride it. :p

It's worth a go Tom. "blah blah blah loyal customer. blah blah blah disappointed spending £X. Blah blah blah i shall advise against others using you in the future. blah blah blah something on twitter"

I've them on my SV, they're much better than the stock although I can't squeeze through tight gaps in traffic like I use to. :(

Now you're just BS'ing...

No I'm not, the last thing I want to do is spend money on a new bike, given my track record of selling on so quickly, it isn't wise spending money straight away.

In some insurance companies the admin fees for cancelling or doing any changes to the policy are nearly double the price of the handlebars. ;)

Your bikes and your money, I don't really care what you do. I just find it weird that you would rule out a bike due to handlebar length, considering they're a 30 min job to change. That's all I was trying to say before everyone jumped on me. :p

For a man who doesn't care you seem to be talking about it a lot... :p

This. I think it's time to move on. Nobody cares what bike has what bars or who owns them or how much you pay in insurance. What matters is that people buy what they want and enjoy themselves. Whether that's on a Harley or a moped makes no difference to anyone but them.
