The internet has ruined the youth.

I am sure people who had children who grew up in the 60's and 70's thought rock and roll were the devil who ruin young people's minds and turning them into rebellious freaks.

That's my point kids today are not creative they're basically narcissistic sheep who conform...don't celebrate individuality or rebel...they are dull online drones...

So essentially this thread is "ffs i turned to texhnology and the internet because i sucked at socialising and now everyone is usuing technology and the internet to socialise and I'm still left out"

On the contrary...I'm red hot with tech...but are not emotionally dependant on it to carve out my life and identity.

I'm 40 I love tech & use social media, but I generally keep my phone in my pocket as i find it ignorant to use it when around others.

Young ones today are never off their phones, my two Teen Nieces are a prime example never off Facebook, Instagram ect they even sit and chat on iMessenger to each other when they in the same room sometimes. :/

They where both bought bikes a couple of years ago for Christmas, & they never been used they just sit at my parent home in the shed, because kids today don't want bikes they want iPads & iPhones ect.

Same goes for work at break the younger adults will just spend all their time on their phones and not speak to anybody much.

Exactly this....

I love the technology around today, but i can't help but feel a lot of it is being misused by the youth of today. The internet and social media are a breeding ground for cyber bullies and antisocial behavior.

Todays kids are self entitled spoilt little brats and technology has a big part to play in that.

Yep, see it on a daily basis..kids don't just want social media and phones...They NEED it , It defines them and they construct a fake image of themselves while real life passes them by. It's a tad pathetic really.

The elderly who lived through multiple wars, a few deep recessions and stuff like the miners strike and cold war?

The same elderly who lived in houses with no central heating, outside bogs and insulation hadn't been invented? The same elderly who had to send their kids to school to get a shower?

The same elderly who lived through times where having multiple jobs was the norm in order to get by?

The same elderly who have seen double digit interest and inflation rates?

The same elderly who used to be able to work together in a community to get stuff done instead of whining about how little others do for them on the internet?

The same elderly who had to deal with the power getting switched off because there wasn't enough to go around?

Yeah, generation ********* need to quit with the whining on twitter about how hard done to they are and realise that they are the most privileged generation ever.

The "millennials" who can barely afford to buy there own property by 30 due to ridiculous house prices, demanding deposits, first time buying has always been a struggle. Oh and on top of that don't forget the extortionate renting prices, but then if I lived at home with Mummy and Daddy I'd be flamed for that too.

The same "millennials" who end up with thousands upon thousands of debt before the even begin their career.

The same "millennials" who get moaned at and shafted for following technology, yet would get no where without it.

The same "millennials" who have to do every little thing they can to get a job, 9/10 it isn't a job that thousands worth of debt set them up to do.

The same "millennials" who have to work for the elderly generation still running things under there views which, are much more racist/homophobic/slanderous than is deemed as acceptable.

I am not hating on the elderly generation at all, different times meant different things. I am not saying all of the elderly generation are racists/homophobic at all. But they were raised in a generation which deemed these actions as acceptable. I'm not at all saying we have it harder, but as every generation goes by the issues they face change. I can guarantee your parents think you have life easy compared to themselves.

The world changes are the younger generation will always be the first to experience those changes and have to learn them.

It's insulting to call an entire generation of people **********. Yes we aren't perfect and the comments made about a lot of them being glued to screens is true but its part of the learning the change process, realising you have to have a balance.

The fact the 60/70 year old white men are in charge of most of our massive companies today has a massive effect on everything. I had a conversation with my Uncle-in-Law once who is of Indian ethnicity in the engineering industry. For 20 minutes he spoke about how a young white British straight male (myself) is worth his weight in gold in the industry purely because of who is running it. So yes I have it easy but imagine if i wasn't white and British would you be calling me a ********* then?

The Internet is the greatest resource man has ever created and yet it is used and abused by idiots.

Social Media is dumbing down not just 'kids' but everyone. Look at the Fake News 'scandal' at the moment with Facebook. People read 1 thing on Facebook and immediately believe it to be true instead of going out and finding evidence to support it.

I'm 28 and I can't stand Twitter, Instagram Snapchat or even Facebook for that matter (I use it to communicate with people but barely post myself.

The Internet will evolve with each generation to reflect that generation.

The Internet is the greatest resource man has ever created and yet it is used and abused by idiots.

Just like with everything else in life, people create great things but there are others out there who will spoil it and people will follow the same horrible attitude.

Meh, the internet has created nothing new, every generation has had exactly the same issues, its just these days the internet facilitates making it all happen faster.

The only thing i worry about is kids being exposed to the advertising machine before they have the knowledge to know whats real, whats not, and who's trying to extract money from you.

Every generation goes through a "kids these days dont know they're born" phase, congratulations you've become what a much younger you will have called "the man", how does it feel?

Stop moaning you oldies.

As a developer in his late 40's, I, for one, particularly enjoy youngsters being completely clueless about everything.
It means they are useless at their job as well (they are) and I can rack in expensive hours doing mine with little fear of competition from underneath.

So, kiddies, go right on doing whatever brain-washing thing you were doing ;-)

I think there is a big difference between people who started to use the internet as an adult and those that have grown up knowing nothing else but the internet.

The decline of common knowledge is a worrying thing.
