Pro Cycling Discussion 2016

A bit earlier I think, there's 60km to go the time of writing this (13:20) and last time I give the speed they were around 50km/h.

Edit: Missed the 1 off the time, 13:20 not 3:20.

Yep way off. Should be done in about 20 mins.

Brutal course in the end. Perfect from sagan. Looked like cav had to do too much dodging around but silver isn't to be sniffed at.

Gutted for Cav, if he didn't have to slow for that split second to avoid Matthews(?) I think he might have just taken it. Had a bet on Sagan though so can't complain :D

Massive surge from Sagan to get round the front group; as David Millar said, he guessed right and got the win. Great racing, Boonen and Belgium were very brave to try a bunch gallop from that group. Would have loved the Dutch guy to have stayed away!

Hopefully be able to see a stage or two with some luck. Izoard looks like it could be a good stage and will be used for Etape.

Just seen Rodriguez signed for Bahrain merida! Glad he isn't gone. Really like the guy, goes well for an old boy too.

Anyone else a bit disappointed Froome didn't make the SPOTY shortlist? Seems a massive oversight to me for easily one of our greatest athletes of all time!

No personality?

The award is misnamed, it seems that the shortlist is judged on sporting prowess but after that it comes down to popularity with the public vote so if there's a big push amongst fans of a niche sport (which cycling arguably still is) then there's a reasonable chance they can get their chosen sportsperson into the top three. See Kevin Sinfield last year, I'm not questioning his achievements or worthiness but rugby league struggles to get the same viewing figures as some other sports.

There's a fair argument for Froome to be on the shortlist although it has been a pretty good year for British sportspeople so he'd be up against some good competition.
