What film did you watch last night?

Dial M for Murder - 9/10

Classic Hitchcock, seen it a few times now & also seen the stage production of it & I never tire of watching these. Next on the list is Rear Window.

I like to ponder if Halloween and The Terminator would exist without West World.

Arnie studied Yul Brynner's performance when he was rehearsing for his role in The Terminator.

Robert Patrick studied how a bald eagle moves its head when preparing for his part in T2.

CAN'T GET ENOUGH TRIVIA.

Gremlins

First time seeing it and didn't think it was anything special. Something about it that I can't put my finger on made me feel queasy.

4/10

John Wick = 9/10

Love it, Pretty good unique action throughout the whole film. I have watched it before but with the second one due next year I couldn't help myself!

Gremlins, Wow that's a very old one!

In my opinion it has NOT aged well at all. It was great when it came out though ;)

Rogue one. 10/10

Im a star wars fan and this Wees all over the Force awakens so much.
IMO it gets better and better until the 3rd act where its 11/10
It actually feels like star wars.... As stupid as that sounds.

I dont really honestly care what non fans will make of it.
Every 35-45 year old man should put down whatever they are doing and go buy a ticket now..

Rogue One 9/10

Ties in beautifully, superb homages everywhere, immersion is only a tad spoiled by some "trying over the top" dodgy accents and almost broken completely by seriously aged and ropey "smigol" mocap CGI (it's the second SW movie where mocap fails the entire movie, not sure if it's still done by Apple owned Faceshift or not, quite frankly don't care - fire the lot and never give them any jobs again - even Westworld on HBO had superior facemapping technology). As one of the predecessors said - the progression of script takes the story to 11/10, two points deducted for parts of CGI stuck in 2002 - 9/10.

^^^ Glad to hear of so many positives. Reallly wasn't a fan of Force Awakened and was worried this one would tread a similar path of just rehashing old ideas. Despite this literally being a prequel, I'm glad to hear it's got some nice original ideas in the mix.

I agree with the mocap in FA, to. Honestly some of the worst I've seen in modern blockbuster history.

Rogue One 9/10

Brilliant film, far better than I expected. Second half of the film is just immense, so much going on. Would happily watch again

Disney have done a great job with the last two films, so many nice touches that make ti feel like the Star Wars films of old rather than just a sci-fi film using the Star Wars name

Glad you guys are giving it good reviews. Think I'm going to go see it Sat while up in Edinburgh. Not sure which cinema has the best screens though.

David Brent: Life on the Road

I like Ricky Gervais so was looking forward to this. Sadly it fell short in my opinion although I thought the ending was good. Best song is Lady Gypsy. :D

Warrior. Kickboxer for grownups. Two estranged, underdog brothers battle in a MMA tournament, before inevitably having to face each other. A backstory of a family broken by death, alcoholism and abandonment, alternate with brutal fighting scenes in the ring. Nick Nolte and Jennifer Morrison do great as supporting characters, while Joel Egerton and Tom Hardy play the brothers vying for the prize money. Recommended.

Hot Tub Time Machine: Moderately amusing story of three middle-aged friends (and one nephew) who try to recapture their youth and find themselves back in the eighties after a drunken night in a time machine hot tub. Their determination to repeat their actions in order to make sure time continues as it should soon crumbles. Pretty funny here and there if you don't mind bad taste, but nothing to make me laugh out loud.

Warrior is excellent. It gets a mention in here every now and then and invariably someone posts up soon after saying they watched it on the back of the posts in here, so here we go again. It's brilliant. Watch it, film thread lurkers.

Yes, Von, the whole of Penelope Cruz is in it (including some nakedness).

Stewski, reading about the film I got the impression that was the case. Miss Cruz plays the same part in that as well. Von Helmet, may be worth checking that one out too?

Star Wars Holiday Special.

Haha, i made the mistake of watching that last christmas with some friends, we managed to get suitably drunk first but still couldnt watch it all the way through. I think you were been generous with your -10 rating.

I havent seen a film in months, almost saw suicide squad then i saw the reviews, gonna make up for it by watching the new Star Wars at the iMax over christmas. Hopefully we can get seats further back this time, we saw the last star wars film in there and got sat right at the front, i had no idea what was going on as my eyes couldnt follow stuff around fast enough.
