What "man jobs" have you done today?

Cut a card template to a shape I liked and jigsawed them out. Then just sanded smooth.

The back piece is rebated into the sides as it gives a much neater and stronger join than just screwing from the side.

Mainly stripping wallpaper, which came off really easily - just lightly soaked with warm water and off it came.

Although it did reveal (which I had been expecting) some rather ****e electrical work which I'll need to sort - not even a horizontal - comes down at an angle :)

Built in oven decided to stop producing heat; which messed up dinner plans.

Ordered a replacement heating element using Prime, delivered today; installed within 50 mins. £12 total cost, happy days.
 
The old lady who used to live in the house we bought had a dressing room, and a wacking great worktop across two cupboard units. So I thought I'd nick it for a workbench in the garage.

Built myself a log store :)

Now to fill it with logs! Seems to be about £50 a tonne around here which should be more than enough. Will probably need an axe to chop them up a little more though as the pics show some quite large ones.

Got a load of pallets from work at home to build something similar and any thing left to build a bar in the garden.

Don't forget to put a bit of felt on roof or you will have water running through gap in roof planks

I am just pricing up logs - 3.6 cubic meters for only £270 :( - I have had it too good for last 20 years - don't like the real world prices.
 
I've gone for Tongue and Groove panels so shouldn't suffer from water running through. Going to paint it at the weekend too. I think that should be ok to avoid needing felt. I've a fairly steep slope on it as well.

That seems a lot for that amount of logs based on the prices i've seen on Gumtree/Ebay

Thats around i cm3 for only £60 so i'd have thought you'd get your quantity around £200 or less.
 
Another pallet wood planter, as the last two I gave away and I fancied one for myself. This one has just been oiled instead of stained.

Dont bother with logs anymore tbh, just use cheap free pallet wood in the evenings if i want it on and set some coal going at the weekend pop it on around 10 in the morning and it ticks over nice for the next 12 hrs.
 
After talking about it for several months I've finally got round to boarding part of our loft.

Due to the amount of insulation up there I ended up having to get some loft stilts.

For anyone that's interested this is what I bought;


I also bought some 40mm screws for the silts to go into the joists and then some 50/60mm (can't quite remember) for the boards to go into the top of the stilts. The 40mm screws did just about go into the top of the stilt, but I decided against them and went for some longer ones.

I ended up going for 2 inspection lamps as I couldn't really warrant the price of an electrician to come in and wire a proper light. It won't be used that often and it's just a matter of plugging an extension lead into the bedroom so it will suffice for now.

Getting to the end of the loft was a very slow process, and having to fight with all the insulation didn't help!

After finally being able to sort the insulation out I was then able to start doing a bit of a layout. At this point the stilts are screw in place but the boards are just interlocked but not screwed down as I still needed to lay the insulation back down under the boards.

Pleased with the end product and the boards seem solid, there's no movement in them at all.
 
Swain, since i've still not got round to this, despite making the thread about it last month.

What are those loft legs made of? I thought they'd have predrilled holes which would be a bit of a hassle making everything line up but it doesn't look like it from your pics.

Also could you give me a rough price of what you paid for everything as it looks a similar size to mine. Bit longer and narrower but generally similar i think.
