What "man jobs" have you done today?

Planter v2 made of an old pallet. Given it a once over with the sander, a brush of stain and lined it with a rubble sack since taking the photo.

Looks good! I'm considering replacing our fire surround with an oak mantle at some point - how did you fix it?

Bought some steel rods from eBay and cut them to length only two needed.

It weighs around 15kg so the rods were into the wall 100mm and 10mm thick. Topped it off with some no nails and its not moved in the slightest.

I finished building a log store from 3 by 3 fence posts, a ply roof and felt. Moved my kiln dried wood onto it, next job will be split a felled tree for next winters wood. Also tidied up the drive and garage which underplays the amount of work.

turned a big pile of logs from some long overdue tree work:

Into a smaller pile of logs and a mostly full (stacked 4 deep) log store over the weekend...

By hand over about 10hours while humming the Monty Python Lumberjack song on repeat...

Since the front door is now painted,

I sanded down the very old brass house numbers and the screws, and brought them back to a nice shiny finish. I'll screw them back on tomorrow night when the door paint is fully dried.

What wood is that and how much did it cost you?

I have underfloor heating and it doesn't run under the units, but i did notice some cold air coming over the kickboards, mainly from the concrete floor and outside walls. As Homebase had the 200mm mineral wool on offer for £10 a bag. It was worth a shot, worked a treat.

I'm definitely going to investigate this. Floating wooden floor underneath the units is making quite the draft. Will just be a case of taking off the kick boards and putting in insulation I think. Stupid not to have thought of it when it was being installed!

Its a combination of Ash, Birch, Willow and Leylandii - it cost a stupid amount of money as its the result of some seriously overdue tree work - apparently the trees haven't been touched for a good 10 years :(

We had a tree surgeon round on Monday - we had a 7 or 8ft high cedar stump cut down ready for grinding. Going to be a full workout splitting that for seasoning...

Replaced both elements in the grill on our cooker last night.

Was all going so well until the last cable pinged into the back of the cooker when I took it off the old element. Mrs Chri5 walked in just as I was unscrewing the back of the cooker to fish it out - looked a bit worried as we're hosting Christmas dinner :D

Tested the grill and both ovens just to be sure all was working...

refinished my kitchen table.

White spirits to get most of the old wax off (which is not a good finish for a table!), then some conron wax remover.

Sanded to 180

Then found the best product ever.... osmo poly wax oil. Brilliant stuff, easy to apply, looks great, and super resistant to water and stains. Expensive but great

Lagged about 10m of CH pipes. which were running through the under stairs cupboard.

The cupboard is now noticeably cooler which means more heat for my radiators :) There is still about 4m left to lag, but the pipes are in an awkward position and close together.

There is also probably 15m of unlagged pipes running through the kitchen too which I'll probably end up doing as well.
