This is where you all point fingers at me and laugh for only just working this out (although I've always wondered about it).

When they are competing against each other and especially in a dangerous place like that quarry in the last episode, is it them that are actually doing the driving?
For years I've thought "That's a pro driving that" and then the camera will go back to one of them inside the car and I just think it's all edited.
Or are they all skilled drivers?
 
Bit of both at a guess - they will all be pretty handy despite the stereotypical driving type allocated for the benefit of the programme.

They will also take hours upon hours to complete the section, none of the shots you see will be from the same lap - then they'll piece it all together.
 
Ugh... we can say the S word so now we'll say it at random times just because we can!

Or they're now just talking to each other how they would if they weren't on the BBC at the time? They swear a lot less than I do. :D With a few cringe points aside, I've really enjoyed this series (especially Italy). Here's hoping it continues to improve in the next season.

Was thinking of that when I read SexyGreyFox's post. Sadly quite a lot of it is manufactured can't remember if it was the Patagonia special but one of their "long" road trips those that know the area said 80% was shot in 2 fields just outside the start then a bit near the end and they probably didn't even drive the bit between at all.

I don't think we saw it launch from the car wash. I reckon that was just sound effects as launch control wouldn't stay primed for that long.
 
I got to say really enjoyed all 12 episodes same formula tbh. I think people are being far to critical on the trio. just enjoy it whilst it on.

They def use stunt drivers in places. A previous episode where hammonds wagon was being roped across a ravine had a driver which was supposed to be Hammond, Im 6ft1 and 18 stone and look more like him. That said I enjoy it, the photography is brilliant too though the use of the word ******* is a little overdone.

Can't quote on how they do it for The grand Tour, maybe it's different now they have a bigger budget.

But before they were banned from filming where I work, I had to escort the old top Gear film crew every time they filmed here, make sure they didn't film stuff they shouldn't.

I can say that during the 2 dozen or so films I saw them shoot, the presenters always did all the driving themselves, and they virtually did every shoot in one take.

Only times I can remember them doing two takes of a scene, were because of vehicle breakdowns, when they would repair the vehicle then re film the entire shoot, not just a part of it to later edit in.

The RC-F shown their is a performance version of their coupe GT car. The GS series is their mid sized saloon, comparable to a BMW 5 series, with the F being the performance model.

What I thought was odd was that he claimed the GS-F was the first performance version when in truth it's just the first launched in the UK, back in the 90's you could get it abroad with the same 3L twin turbo engine found in the Supra.

Surely it must be more than one, as quite often they show footage shot by a GoPro stuck to the side of the car, then seconds later a wider shot shows no GoPro?

Also, in that track, where did the green bit that Clarkson drove up come from? Or the water...
