Shooting incident at Louvre in Paris

Which cupcakes are you referring to?

The guys saying a machete is a knife or the guys saying its not?

Probably the guy saying;

"Looks like the guy just went nuts when his entry was blocked as he had too much luggage".

because as we all know, perfectly reasonable people carry machetes around and pull them out when they're told you can't come in.

Surely the vast majority of people would have zero sympathy with a machete wielding terrorist trying to murder innocent people in a museum?

Was he a "machete wielding terrorist trying to murder innocent people in a museum?" Have you not just assumed this?

I hope he survives so the French can question him in their usual enthusiastic fashion.

I guess we'll know the answer to my question after he's been questioned.

(disclaimer: he might have been an innocent fellow who was angry at being searched and just happened to have a machete on him for his museum trip, totally understandable behaviour according to some in GD)

We don't yet currently know his motives - which is why he needs to be questioned.

While his motives look likely to be unsavoury, was he part or a larger plot? What exactly was he intending to do? Were the soldiers his target? Were the public his target? Did he have have one specific person as his target or was it generalised? Was he actually planning something else and attacked because he got caught?

You know what they say about those who assume.

To be fair French people dont like to queue.

Story has now been updated by BBC
A man shouting "Allahu Akbar" is reported to have tried to attack the soldier with a knife and was seriously injured when the soldier responded.

This will be more ammunition for Le Pen supporters.

quite possibly, though initial press reports of these incidents tend to be a bit naff - nearly always some witness will be quoted as saying the attacker yelled "Allahu Akbar"... even in the Quebec Mosque shooting carried out by a white supremacist recently (maybe it did happen and he was being ironic or something?). I wouldn't infer too much just yet.

I think it was the victims shouting "Allahu Akbar" there.

Running at someone carrying a loaded gun, while shouting "allahu akbar" and flailing a machete above your head. Theres no one in the world who isn't going to shoot you...

Well TBH I would be more likely to throw my super skinny double decaff latte at him in my desire to escape.

Where do you think you are - Speaker's Corner?

Did 2016 teach you nothing? It's time to embrace the glorious age of post truth, alternative fact, fake news. If he thinks the attacker is dead, then why should his opinion be worth less than yours?

Well in that case, RIP to all the victims of the Bowling Green massacre :D

We dont know yet do we? He might have had plans to chop people up and carry them home in his rucksack.

All I stated was the facts known so far. Please tell me which ones are wrong?

You are just wrong. You and a couple of others seem to have missed that he was carrying a weapon\knife\machete\stabby thing around with him, he was stopped and then pulled out the item to attack a soldier.

1: Since when is it normal to carry such an item.

2: Since when is it normal to attack an armed soldier with said item shouting "God is great" in arabic?

All your posts are coming across in a way to defend the attacker and to down play how it was done and how\why he was stopped.

Did you miss those above points?

"The man had rushed toward a group of soldiers and guards in the Carrousel du Louvre, the underground plaza adjoining the museum, according to Paris Police Chief Michel Cadot. Wielding the weapon, the man shouted "Allahu akbar," Cadot said. The Arabic phrase translates to "God is greatest."
The soldier fired five shots in response.
"

Also two people arrested:

"Another person was also arrested, the French Interior Ministry said, although it was not immediately clear whether he or she was connected to the attack."
